I usually turn it down a little when my wife slams the door to the basement. Having said that I would guess my listening is usually in the 85-90 db range.

But then again the smoke detector usually goes off when I cook and the fire department has also shown up.

    220-221 whatever it takes.
I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D

McIntosh amps are not the Holy Grail for all people. My ears tell me they are an accurate amp. If you need more in the bottom end, then the Mac probably won't be it for you.

I get my low level punch from my subs

F1nut is asking you some valid questions about your gear. Why not outline what you have from A-Z to give us an idea where you're at?

Maybe you don't know what I mean when I say source. A source is a CDP, tape deck, TT, radio, iPod, etc. So, what are you using?

^^^^^ Yep get a lousy or hot CDP and your ears will hurt at any level. I once used an Oppo for CD playback, I think 960, without a dac and had piercing treble and shill string intruments rattling my eardrums.

If I might venture in here...I'm going to go with the Paradigms at the level of info available.
I've noticed they're "hot on top" for my ears.
I've run a lot of horn speakers that didn't fatigue my ears as much as the Paradigms I've had. I like them but like the OP stated they start getting to me about the time the speakers started to open up and drive well.
The source and/or source material can be a heavy influence on ear"itation".
