Does EQ'ing your sub really help and is it worth the money.? Was looking at the SMS-1 system but wanted some owners input on the system.

Thanks

I don't own an SMS-1, but I'm EQ'ing my sub during 2.1 channel listening by running it through my AVR and using Audyssey. Everything else is run directly through my pre-amp to my amps unEQ'ed. EQ'ing the sub makes a big difference. I'm looking at buying a SMS-1 or something similar now.

When in 5.1 mode, everything is EQ'd.
    Processor - Emotiva UMC-200
    Pre-Amp (2 Ch) - Emotiva USP-1
    DSP Minidsp nanoAVR DL
    DAC (2 Ch) - Emotiva XDA-2
    Amp (Fronts) - Emotiva XPA-2
    Amp (Center/Surrounds) - Emotiva XPA-3
    CD - Emotiva ERC-1
Fronts - Polk Audio RTi 12
    Center - Polk Audio CSi5
    Rears - Polk Audio RTiA1
    Sub - Epik Knight
    Sub EQ - Velodyne SMS-1
    Monitor - Sony XBR65X850C
    Blu-Ray - OPPO BDP-203
Network Media Player - Chromecast Ultra
    Power Conditioner - APC H15
    Power Conditioner - Emotiva CMX-2
    PVR - DirecTV C61k
    Remote - Harmony Touch w/Hub

I use the SVS version, which according to TomV is much better and it certainly helped my subwoofer quite a bit. I have since sold the subwoofer but will use it on the next since it doesn't matter what you use it on.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Did you use it with a SVS subwoofer? I'm thinking of getting one for my
SVS ultra-13. What did it do????

I use the SMS-1 for my HT and it is definately worth it for me. My HT sub is a DIY using a 15" audiopulse driver. I find I increased the sub volume after eq'ing because it was very clean. If you get one, don't mistake clean base for less bass. The SMS is also very easy to set up. I'd also say the manual setup does a considerably better job than the auto setup (which is good in it's own right).

I'm using the Behringer DCX2496 and REW (Room EQ Wizard) with the Behringer ECM8000 measurement mic.

It is more work than the SMS-1 but the upside is it does more and costs less.

And yes EQ'ing your sub will make a difference.

I think I saw one on audiogon today. I didn't look at it just saw it listed. I think it was $325.00.

Check AVS or Audiogon. I've seen some good prices there.

Yeah, seen both and was thinking about the one for $325 but he has zero feedback. Also there's one local to me that posted yesterday on Craigslist. Sent the seller 4 emails without any response.
