Before you read more, please note that these ARE NOT polk speakers. I am wanting to upgrade some gear downstairs and need some cash so I am looking to downsize my office gear.

I currently have a pair of Infinity Studio Monitor 185's and a pair of Primus P162's. They are driven currently by a Denon 1610 which might switch to a Yamaha CR-240 in the future.

I like to listen loud at times and I do like bass, but I am unsure which of the two sets will be the better keeper, and also what a fair selling price for the loser set would be.

Spec's for each are listed below:

Infinity Studio Monitor 185's:

Sensitivity (2.83V @ 1m) 98dB
Impedance 8
Bass Driver 8"
Midrange Driver NA
High-Frequency Driver 1"
Power Rating 10 - 125 watts
Frequency Response 70 - 20kHz

Infinity Primus P162's

Frequency Response (±3dB) 49Hz - 20kHz
Recommended Power Amplifier Range 10 - 150 watts
Sensitivity (2.83V @ 1m) 90dB
Nominal Impedance 8 ohms
Crossover Frequency(ies) 3,000Hz; 24dB/octave
Low-Frequency Driver 6-1/2" (165mm) MMD
High-Frequency Driver 3/4" (19mm) MMD

I haven't heard either speaker, so I can't help with any informed advise. Which speakers sound better to you? That's all that really matters isn't it? Keep the ones you think sound the best in your system and sell the other pair.

Well I think I might be able to get ~120 if I sell the Primus 162's since they are under a year old and currently are going for 85 a speaker new.

The Studio Monitor's I have had no luck selling for 100 locally so I dont know.

The 185's have a bigger woofer so they go lower than the Primus, but they are also rear ported so they need more space than I can really provide on my desk....

Either way its kinda a tough call.

I would sell the SM185s. The P162s dig deeper. Just my opinion.

The bigger woofer in the SMs does not seem to "go lower" than the 162s. According to the specs given.
I like older Infinity stuff myself however. The late 80s through early 90s was their hay day!

Yeah, I didnt notice that till you pointed it out. Interesting that the bigger woofer doesnt go lower than the smaller one. However there is a massive difference in the sensitivity....but will I really notice it...probably not....

GRRRR....ok think the SM185's are on the chopping block. Will hopefully get me a little bit of cash to save for upgrades and for sure some extra desk space!

Is 100 asking too much or too little for them? Condition is 8/10 I would say. Grills are clean w/ no holes, but one of the speaker cones has a slight green tinted area on it. Doesnt affect the sound, but does look a little wierd...

Not sure of the value. Check CL or eBay to see what others are asking. They are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them!
A 8 dB will be noticed at equal volume settings but, just crank it up!
Infinity tested the bejesus out of the Primus series. They are some of the best deals for entry lever speakers.
