Just purchased a 46" LED Samsung UN46c6300
Also have a brand new sony blue ray player
Also have brand new hdmi cables
Also have Cablevision HD box

I hooked everything up and it all works great, This is my question:

The TV is advertised as a 120 hz. However,

The owners manual says 60 Hz
The plack on the back of the set says 110 volts/60 hz

When we put on any channel, even the HD channels the input says 60 hz

When we play a DVD it says 24 Hz

We have not tried a blue ray DVD yet.

I called Samsung, and I called Best Buy

They both said that it most definitely a 120hz TV
They both said that cablevision broadcasts only in 60hz
They both said that this is all normal
They both said that I should try a DVD and see if it comes up 120

Needless to say, I am very sceptical about the whole thing

What do you guys think about all of this???

    Thank you for the reply.

Will an HD blue ray disc show up as 120hz??

I plan to rent one tomorrow to see for myself.

If not, How will I ever know that this is in fact a 120hz tv?

What do you think about that plaque on the back of the set that says 60hz?

Yes you are correct. I put a blue ray disc in today and it said 24 hz.

I do like the TV so far. The picture is beautiful. However:

At best buy, the salesperson suggested we get it adjusted by one of there professionals.
This would cost a couple of hundred bucks.

There are a **** load of adjustments that can be made on this TV.
I have no idea how to do this

Is there a web site that you guys recommend that can help me calibrate this TV correctly??

    120hz is the refresh rate.
the "60hz" you saw in the manual is the type of power it inputs from the wall.. 120V 60hz. It has nothing to do with the refresh rate.

NOTHING will show up as "120hz". The screen simply refreshes at that speed. Everything you input will show up as their respective resolution and frame rate, upscaled to the full resolution and frame rate of the tv.

If you watch a blu-ray, it should show up as 1920x1080 24p/hz assuming it's set up correctly.

To calibrate it? You might want to have someone do it for you if you don't know what to do. You can always get an AVIA disc and do it yourself, but once again there will still be TONS of options on the tv that you have to set.

You wanted the best, you'll have to pay/do the best to get the most out of it too.
    Main Surround -
    Epson 8350 Projector/ Elite Screens 120" / Pioneer Elite SC-35 / Sunfire Signature / Focal Chorus 716s / Focal Chorus CC / Polk MC80 / Polk PSW150 sub

    Bedroom - Sharp Aquos 70" 650 / Pioneer SC-1222k / Polk RT-55 / Polk CS-250

    Den - Rotel RSP-1068 / Threshold CAS-2 / Boston VR-M60 / BDP-05FD

Its their calibration. If you do this, check with them prior to having it done what all they will do.

There are several things that could be done in a cali. When I spoke with a guy that does them for Best Buy he stated they don't cali them all the same as some they will set the color temp others they will not, and will just do the black level adjustments etc but will not touch other things so be careful. For 200 bucks (thats what they charge) I would make sure if you did it to get the most out of it and find out what they are all doing. Otherwise if you want someone else to do a cali there are ISF reps that do FANTASTIC jobs at it, and will make sure everything is done the best possible, not just one aspect.

oh and the guy said he had been doing it for 2 years and never did a projector. They also will never touch convergence, or fix other issues that could be found. At MOST it was the color temp (but not always) and then what was stated above.

Thank you everyone for your help. I now have a much better understanding of this TV.

You have all confirmed what I was told buy both best buy and pc richards.

They both told me it was a 120 hz panel, but I did not trust them

I do however trust you guys.

I have the same TV and followed the following links' suggestions in regards to picture settings. I've tweaked them a little further to suit my taste. Hopefully you can get a rough approximation of how you want your TV to look.
