Hello All, I’ve been watching for a used projector and one came up today, a Sony BRAVIA VPL-VW85 SXRD for the same price came up. I had been watching for an Epson 8100 then was looking at the new 8350. I think this Sony is a much more expensive projector new and some of the stats are WAY higher, 120,000 to 1 contrast. But its max lumens was only 800. So is it a better projector for the same money, or a different one? The home theater is the basement is pretty light controlled so I’m not sure the lumens really matter that much. Thanks for the help!

Way better PJ for sure, the lamps will run you 200-300 a pop. Its Sony's SXRD which is the same technology used in JVC's LCOS. It is definitely a serious PJ and will own the Epsons and Pannys in image quality. If the price is right for you then I would definitely say go for it. New those units go for around 6K and up. If the unit gets sold before you score it, look around for JVC RS15/25 which will equally compare.

Seen the same Sony projector you are talking about and something doesn't seen right. That's a $8000 projector for $1200. Look at the other used Sony VW85's selling on there used for $4000 more. Be very careful and see it in person first.

    It's a very nice projector.

Yes, it has me a little spooked too,the post refers to his perfect rating when its 0 as well and the weight is off by at least 24 pounds for that projector. I guess I could at least make contact.

First question to him should be if you can pick it up. Usually if a person allows you to see the product first it's advertised correctly. Most scammers won't allow pickup.

Ya, it was scam. What was kind of sad, was its the same email verbatim I have gotten on some 'to good to be true' Harleys.

I picked up a refurbed JVC RS2 at avsforum last year for a few bones over $2k. That's where I'd start a search.
