Amazon has a pre-order price of just $89.99, pretty kick-**** deal for the 6-disc set, and reviews are giving these films A+ scores for A/V.

Yeah, I just can't justify a purchase on this one. I mean, extras aside, it's $22.50 per movie... as opposed to the Shrek 1-4 boxset, which is $11.25 per movie, which is far more palatable to me. So maybe when Alien Anthology drops down to like $60, I'm in, but it's hard to justify $90 for a series that only really has two great movies.Equipment list:

Same here.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

The box set looks great but I wish the movies were available individually. All I want is Alien and Aliens.
-
I enjoyed them all and I don't own the dvds of the last two films so this is an easy justifiable purchase.
But give it 6 months and I bet we'll see them sold individually, just like with the Matrix set.If...

The price will come down, just give it 6 months or so."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

The price will be lower for the Xmas holiday shopping.

Just watched Alien. The PQ on this disc is near perfect; colors, black levels, details, and clean. Very impressive. The SQ is almost as good, other then the fact the effects are dated compared to what we hear today.
For a 31 year old film it gets an A+.If...

Still working great as a pre-pro. Oppo BD-83 on one HDMI, Xbox 360 on the other. Sunfire TGA-5400 connected via MIT ICs on the analog out. Sounds great. So great, I cannot rationalize an upgrade.

I agree with ya, to this day some of the model work looks more realistic then this CGI stuff, but CGI has come a very long way.
As to these films, I was talking about only a few scenes where there were shots of stuff against backgrounds, really looks dated.
Watched Aliens last night, and it looked and sounded even better, fantastic in fact. Looking forward to the next two films. The 4th was one of my favorites.If...

FYI to anyone interested: If you add Alien Anthology and Last Of The Mohicans to your cart at Amazon, you get $20 off. Just a heads up... though it's still not enough for me to bite yet.Equipment list:

How about sound, Ron-P? Do these discs include lossless audio? I've always been a huge fan of this series.Gears shared to both living room & bedroom:

All have lossless, DTS-HD. The sound is fantastic! Not quite as good as the PQ only because of the sound effects used back then compared to now, they are dated.If...

I have only watched Aliens so far, and as mentioned above, the transfer is superb, and the sound is as good as it was when released. Meaning it is not as good as present day surround sound, since that was not a goal at the time.
However, there are 2 quirks that are irritating, at least with the Oppo BD83.
First, Aliens does not support 'resume from stop'. This is unacceptable, and is a flaw of many BluRay disks. I absolutely hate turning the player on and having to skip forward to where I stopped the previous night. So far, Avatar is the only Bluray that really gets this right. Avatar appears to store the stop point in memory, and a month later will remember where to resume. There is no excuse for any Bluray to not support 'resume from stop'.
The second issue is that upon start the aspect ratio will over expand on the screen so that it appears to be a 10x magnification. The work-around is to start the disk, hit main menu, hit play, and it resumes in the correct aspect ratio. I will upgrade the firmware over the weekend and see if that fixes this issue.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

It's your player. I had to stop Alien3 last night and finish it tonight, the bookmark feature worked fine on my Sony 350. Also, all 4 discs have a feature that once you insert Alien you will be able to watch the other 3 films being able to skip all the mumbo-jumbo and go right to the movie menu, it's fantastic.
After finishing up the 2.5 hour DC of Alien3 I found myself much more impressed with it then I remember.If...

Resume from stop is not bookmark. I have no idea how to add a bookmark to a disk. Nor should I have to. That is why resume from stop is such a useful feature.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

FYI, I read on one of the Amazon reviews that this was an issue on the Oppo player as well, but that they had tested it on multiple other players and had no problems. Unfortunately, they didn't mention anything about whether a firmware upgrade fixed it (or if they had even tried it).
This set looks SOOO sweet... definitely going on my Christmas or birthday list!

Another great one for my Christmas wish list. My inner voice says buy it now but the ministry of finance whispers "wait"

The first two movies look and sound better than ever. Alien 3 features a newly improved audio soundtrack as the 2003 version had only on-set audio and dialogue was often drowned out or lost to sound effects and noises during the filming. Resurrection has the worst picture of the three but the best sound. I got the US boxed set and it is truly sweet. I think this is probably the nicest set in my collection. I couldn't be more pleased.

Dan,
you are making it tough on me not to pull the trigger now! Must resist until Xmas . . . -
I love the films, but damn, it's just too difficult to watch these with the cheesy effects and older-then-dirt audio tracks. I finished them all up but doubt I'll revisit these so I think I'm going to sell off my set.If...

Ron, how about selling it to a fellow Polkie from SoCal?

Is this still worthy of adding to the collection. I'll pick it up from Bestbuy since I'm here in the USA. I picked up Toy Story 3 & The Pacific. Thinking about this and Back To the Future.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

You missed it last week when it was $69.99 and if you bought Last Of The Mohicans for $14.99 at the same time, you got $20 off the order. Scored both for $65, so had to bite.
I've watched the first three movies so far, and they look pretty fantastic. Definitely worth a purchase if you can snake it at a good price. And the documentary on Alien 3 was worth seeing.Equipment list:
