Anybody here own one? My Nakamichi OMS7A Cd players have provided me many years of service with my SDA's, but nothing lasts forever! If both would break, I could spend many $$$ and have one brought back to factory spec. Sooooo, I'm considering the Yammy player to do double duty with CD's and venture into SACD. I could get one from Crushfield and send it back within 60 days if I did not like it, but I have never done that before. I rather hear some opinions, because their aren't many reviews and I have no local dealers. I just can't take one home for review before purchase, like in the old days. If you have one, could you share your opinion on this CD player?

Crutchfield pays return shipping as well, might as well try one out.

I had used a CDS1000 for a transport for quite awhile. I found it well built and I actually preferred the stand alone CDS1000 vs a Benchmark DAC I had previously used, however...I'm not really a fan of the Benchmark and I don't think the CDS1000 represents great value in terms of sound (build quality it can't be touched...its over the top). I think you can do better for cheaper money however if you can find a big savings drop and still have a trial period why not give it a try.

I've read (but not heard) great things about the Cambridge 840 (but have seen first hand shotty reliability) and the Sony 5400ES. Sony has an amazing track record with CD transports/players. I know some people on Audiogon have found them cheap and replaced $5k front ends with the Sony's.

I haven't tried the Yamaha but I did have a Marantz SA11S2 SACD Player that is well reviewed. Nice player but can't say I thought the value was there. I ended up selling the Marantz and got an Olive 04HD instead. I am much happier with the Olive that can do 24/96 as a server instead. Good luck.

Do not know about the Yamaha, but do have the Sony XA5400ES SACD player, and it is great, especially after going with MIT cables. stereophile has the Sony XA5400ES in their A+ category for SACD players, and says it performs at a level higher than its retail price. So save yourself $600, and get the Sony.
Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes

Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables

Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
    Three 20 amp circuits.
