New Receiver Question

I am looking to upgrade my surround system currently driven by an Onkyo TX-SR606. A couple of the HDMI ports do not work anymore, this receiver has reported problems with sound dropouts with DirecTV, and I feel like I am not getting enough power out of the Monitor 70's I recently purchased. I am fairly new to home theater and I am just looking to get the best sound out of my current speakers, what receiver can help me get the most out of my setup? By the way, I am totally clueless about amps, so if that would help please let me know.

Current Setup:
Onkyo TX-SR606
Polk Monitor CS2 Center
2 Polk Monitor 70 Front Speakers
2 Polk RM6751 Rear Speakers

You'll get some good recommendations if you post your budget. An AVR with pre-out connections and a used amp would do wonders for your 70s, I'm sure.

^^^^^2nd that....I was very happy with the VSX-1020 and even gently ran my LSI25 temporarily waiting on SC35 and amp. The 1120 would be a good choice and has the preouts for future upgrades...and the price is great too....IMO

Another viable (and probably more affordable) option is to buy a refurb direct from Harman Kardon here: http://stores.ebay.com/Harman-Audio/Harman-Kardon-/

The AVR 247 seems to be going for great prices. Then look around for a used Adcom, Rotel, Carver, NAD, etc... amp.

Seriously, your ears would love it, and your wallet might not end up too much lighter. :) I've bought new before and am happier in the end that I went this route, thanks to what I learned hanging out here. YMMV.
