OK,
Here is the story. I really wanted a Pioneer Elite PD-D9 SACD player. Pioneer had them on closeout, but I waited too long and they sold out. After that, I looked around the country and found a dealer that had ONE left and they were willing to deal with me and ship it. Problem is, they wouldn't sell it to me unless I bought their only remaining SX-A9-J (matching amp/tuner). In a moment of impulsiveness, I said what the heck and bought them both for a reasonable closeout price.
Problem is, I really have no use for this other than to possibly replace my NAD 7175PE that sits on my desktop rig. For that purpose, I think it would be overkill.
So, I have this brand new, sealed box SX-A9-J, which is Pioneer Elites "Pure Audio" flagship amp/tuner. This had an original price of around $1000. Pioneer replaced it with a Mk2 version and raised the price to $1500! The only changes are cosmetic (different finish and display).
It is a true dual mono, with twin toroids and separate circuitry for each channel. It is a pure analog integrated amp/tuner, but with the bonus feature of having a built in USB DAC (Burr Brown PCM1702). Also has a tuner and MM/MC phono inputs, as well as headphone output.
I believe they market this as having 70x2 watts of power, but the FTC rating is more like 55x2 into 8 ohms, so it is not a powerhouse, but it is 4ohm stable and will drive a set of efficient speakers to very loud levels with great fidelity. Pioneer marketed this against the likes of Musical Fidelity and Cambridge in Europe and it did quite well over there. It has very high build quality and weighs in at nearly 30lbs. The front face is a beautiful dark gray brushed aluminum finish with a neat curve to it. Very clean lines with minimal buttons. Most functions are controlled by remote.
While you won't find many reviews of this model, you will find many praises of the nearly identical European model (A-A9-J) which was the same except it didn't include a tuner. Pioneer Europe sold a separate tuner. Also, in Europe, they are not marketed as Elite Components.
The Pioneer Canada website has a nice little writeup of the technologies along with gut shots:

So, I would like to sell this for $450+shipping, which is a exactly half of what I had to pay for for the pair combo. The only one selling on Ebay is asking more than $600 for this amp. Will ship it double boxed.
Stock photo attached for reference.

The only difference in the rear shot is the addition of antenna connections.
