I currently own BluRay player which also plays SACDs. Can anyone comment on how these dual purpose players stack up against stand alone SACD players? Thanks.

It depends on what you have. If it's the 570 in your sig then it's a decent SACD player, but won't hold up well against the good players. I have the 370 and also have the Denon 3910, and the Denon is better for SACD playback and even it's a universal player. The Sony CE595 dedicated player is even a better SACD player than the BDP.

That's what I was kinda thinking. Thanks!

If anyone can recommend me a player new or used it would be much appreciated. (I don't want to break the bank either).

I have a OPPO BDP 83SE, which I recommend highly. For Bluray and SACD's I use the 8 channel analog output, and for normal CD listening use the separate analog Stereo output. Of course it also had HDMI out. Do a search for this player, and you can find all the specs. Great player for almost any format. :)

OPPO BDP-83 It is simply spectacular ....

Yeah, so spectacular that all the modification companies are offering upgrades for it.

my OppO sounds icky next to my dedicated SACD players but then they should sound better, its what there supposed to do, play music first or play music only. the OppO company though is trying to give some thought to music SQ with the bit more expensive SE model, well, I own the regular one and only heard it, it only lasted one night in the Rabbit Hole before getting kicked to the Reel Time Theater where it matches in well and is my HT player, but have heard reports from people I know that the SE model is a better analog machine than the original.

Some other used models to consider are for SACD playback are the Pioneer dv47ai, the Denon 2900 or 3910, at least I have used those, I did hook a MF tube buffer to them and got a better sound with a bigger jump in redbook than sacd.

There's mods out there for all price levels of gear. I do have to chuckle though when I hear about some mega buck pieces that are modded. You would think that you're paying for the best money can buy parts wise. Sadly profit margins dictate skimping on quality parts across the board even for the $$$$$$ stuff.
