I just got some monitor 70's. I was planning on buying a Acurus A200x3 amp off CL. I have some questions on the Acurus A200x3. I've been reading that this amp runs cool. The one for sale though, has a very hot rear heat sink. The left and right heat sinks are only slightly warm.

Is there something wrong with this A200x3?

Also read that there is no speaker protection on the A200x3, will this be an issue. I would hate to fry my speakers from this amp.

Thanks in advance.

I had an A200x3 for a number of years. Very nice amp. Heatsinks got moderately warm when pushed but never really hot. Assuming similar loads on all channels, if one is significantly hotter than the others I would suspect a biasing issue which probably indicates something else on that channel is in need of attention.

So, does this mean that I have to adjust the bias? Or does this mean that there is an issue with that channel?

If its adjusting the bias, how would the bias have changed?

Should I pass on the amp?

I'm a novice when it comes to these things.

    Thanks.

Wow, I've thought about checking out some used acurus amps before. Is setting bias on these amps going to cost a lot at the repair shop?

Mine gets warm but thats about it. I don't know if there is any sort of bias setting. I'd steer clear of it.

there is one on craigs list here in the IL area. I have not heard it but have heard good things about it and running hot was not one of them.

Acurus is starting back up again.

Spoke with a guy from Indy Audio Labs and they will be producing ARAGON and ACURUS gear soon (some this fall)

I wish the best to IAL, kinda expected them to already selling the Aragon amps after talking to them about a year ago. At that time it sounded like they were starting up around Fall 2009.
