Alright guys, you have always helped me out in the past and I may have to act quick on this one. I have a current setup with a harmon kardon avr 510 with a acurus 3ch amp. @100wpc. I have a chance to buy a harmon kardon avr 8000. I can only afford to keep one or the other. which would be better the stand-alone avr 8000 or the avr 510 with the amp??

Keep the Acurus and get a more current AVR that can handle today's high def formats. The 8000 is a great AVR, but it's a little outdated and your amp should drive your speakers just as good. What is the rest of your rig? That could help us help you better.Home TheaterRTiA5 - CSiA6 - FXiA6 - PSW650 - Pioneer Elite SC-55 - Carver AV-505 - Sony 46" 120Hz - Monster HP 2400 - Xbox 360 - Playstation 32 ChannelPolk RTA 15TL - Harman Kardon HK3485 - HK DVD48 - Signal Cable IC's and speaker cables

I should also mention that the avr8000 is ultra thx certified......I am also concerned about being able to set the levels with the amp attached. The avr 510 and 8000 both have a mic that will auto adjust. With the amp i may not be able to do this.Harman kardon signature 2.1 amp

Sorry to keep posting, but my other concern is that the avr 510 and the acurus together might be a little bright. I am guessing the 8000 is as warm as the 510 at least. Is this a valid concern?Harman kardon signature 2.1 amp

A seperate amp will be way better than an avr. Depending on what kind of processing you need, change avr's if you like but keep the amp. Oh, and the thx certified thing, doesn't mean much so don't put too much emphasis on that. Also, an amp has no beering on the proper set up of your avr. Don't sweat it.HT SYSTEM-
