any reason, dollar for dollar to think any of the older cl buys on linear tracking turntables would be any better than fixed tonearm tts.

Good question! I used to have a nice (to me) LT Mitsubishi until my brother-in-law f'd it up.
Yeah, I have no clue what the answer is but would love to hear input as well.

I have a Yamaha PX3 Linear Tracking Turntable in my rig and would not change it for anything. The benefit of a "linear" tracker is that they move across the record in the same motion as the grooves in the record were cut, thus virtually eliminating tracking error. There are many examples of this type of design out there, but I would tend to shy away from most of them. For all the complexity, most were not as good as a conventional setup. The Sony Biotracers, Yamaha PX series, a couple Mitsubishi and Pioneer tables were considered very good or excellent at the time.
The Yamaha design work was done by Micro-Seiki, and are considered to be among the very best of the linear tracking setups. There are more than a few that would favourably compare the PX2 and px3 to current tables in the 2-3k range. The PX-1 is exceedingly rare and is the best of the breed.The Gear...
