I really like the networking cabailities of this reciever, and the built in mp3/wma decoder, but how does the rest of the reciever par with other top ends?
On a side note, what's a descent patch cable to use on a reciever like this? I don't want to spend $100 for each cable, but i don't want radio shack brand either.

Onkyo makes good equipment, I think you'll be more than satisfied.
I've become "addicted" to Audioquest cables. Outstanding grainless treble; look at the Sidewinder ($36 1mtr pr) or Copperhead ($56 1mtr pr) for the most bang-to-buck ratio. The Copperhead employs a little higher purity copper, but I have used both extensively and honestly cannot detect any audible difference.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Source: Rotel CD14MkII CD Player - Speakers: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
steveinaz: from searching around on differant stores it looks like there are 2 types of sidewinder interconnects. Should i look for the ones listed on audioquests website? or are the older versions just as good. I found some 0.5m sidewinder's for $18.90 here http://store.hometheateradvantage.com/1167.html

The newer ones just sport a different look. There's no change in materials or quality.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Source: Rotel CD14MkII CD Player - Speakers: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I've got the Onkyo TX-NR900 and am extremely happy with it. I've got it hooked up via my wireless LAN and it works great. Nice to have all of your CD's at your finger tips.
I think that you'll really like the 801.A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part... -
am i going to notice a huge amount of SQ differance between the 801 and 901? or does the 901 just have more features.

I don't know specifics of those Onkyo's just the build quality in general of Onkyo components--which is good.
One of these Onkyo owners should chime in on that one.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Source: Rotel CD14MkII CD Player - Speakers: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -

Why not? I have used the Radio Shack Gold interconnects and find they do a very nice job. I also use the Audioquest Sidewinders and G-Strings (sometimes packaged as G-Snakes - I guess to keep the serpent thing going). They are better than RS... but not night and day. IMO RS is definitely as good or better than the similarly priced interconnects from Monster, AR, etc..."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

I don't think that you'd notice a big SQ difference. Like I said, I have the 900 (now the 901) and the specs look about the same as the 801. There are just a few features that are missing from the 801.
However, both have the same 192khz/24bit DACs, etc.
I can't say for sure as I have not heard the 801 though. I'd give Onkyo a call and ask them what they think.A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part...
