Hello everybody,

i recently got some speakers and a new receiver, the one posted. I am trying to get it to work with my ipod but it says generation error. Granted my ipod was probably used by columbus himself, ja ja ja, however i am surprised that it is not being recognized by the receiver.

Is there some way around this? I am not planning on buying a new ipod for this. And i am hoping that i do not have to do it the mini jack with spitter via rca input.

Regards,

eduardo

by the way my ipod is a click wheel 20 gb, maybe 2nd generation, music only (no video )

In all honesty, this isn't surprising.

Older iPods usually don't work with more recent products (even within their product line). You'll probably have to spring for a more recent iPod, but I'd double check that by contacting either Apple or Pioneer. Also, try updating your iPod if you haven't already.

Just to give you some word-of-mouth, I had a fourth generation Nano that wouldn't work with my Apple G3 notebook. I researched online, troubleshooted for hours, and finally contacted an Apple sales representative who stated that I would need to buy a newer notebook.

More recently my cousin and I hit up an Apple store in Seattle to get his iPhone checked out. While waiting, we talked with a sales person who pretentiously said he upgrades his iPod and iPhone every two years. Being that my cousin is a mechanical engineer on a tug boat, he questioned the importance of product quality and sustainability over extended periods of time. The salesman responded, "Well...if you want the best consumer technology in the world, you gotta buy something new every year or so." My cousin laughed and said, "I'm not talking about technology. I just want my iPhone to work on a consistent basis."

Because of these experiences alone, I no longer purchase Apple products. If I have an older iPod, I expect it to sync with newer technology that is meant for the iPod...no matter the age of either products. To me, and this is solely my opinion, Apple has historically narrowed the market by creating products that no longer sync with newer products, and making iTunes incompatible with MP3 players.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm true believer in buying products that last.

Cfrizzle hit it right on the money. Use the analog cables and be done with it. I actually prefer that method over USB, however you will lose the control of the Ipod via AVR.
    Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Try turning the AVR off before hooking up the IPod.

Thank you all for all the advice and comments. I actually use it with an rca cable but did not want to loose the possibility to control with the receiver remote.

At least i can hear it but it bothers me that pioneer states work with iphone work with ipod and then in small letters just so and so generation.

I like technoligy but if i have a piece of equipment that works for me why should they force me to change it?

    Thanks again,

    eduardo
