Anybody see the *New* offering in the Audio Advisor catalog for an Exemplar Modified Oppo BDP83SE?
Looks like more and more folks are getting onto the modified 83 bandwagon.
We have the standard 83, the 83SE, a Modwright 83SE, a Nuforce 83SE, and now the Exemplar.
Would love to read a 'death match' shoot out....:p

Same here.
If you search on different forums you get different opinions ranging from the 83Se is the 'cats meow' and can keep pace with higher priced dedicated CDPs, to, it sounds much better than stock, but still doesn't match up to dedicated CDPs.
Gotta get my ears on one for myself.

Yeah, I have read a lot about the Wolfson DaC's, but my Arcam has them, and as far as using my digital coax from my music server into the onboard Arcam DAC's, the Oppo actually had a little better sustain in the highs. (That cymbal crash held just for a bit longer, and just a little bit more noticeable edge to the bass.)
Now, this was comparing the same track Oppo vs Arcam pre/pro DAC's. But, the dig coax could be limiting also, but it's pretty good. It's so close, you REALLY have to listen, and rewind, etc etc..
All I know, is the Oppo has just a little more authority vs the aforementioned. But I am curious to how night and day the Modded ones are.Polk RTi A7's FrontPolk CSi A4 CenterPolk Tsi 100's SurroundOnkyo TX-RZ50:)Oppo BDP 83 (Collecting dust)MIT Terminator 3 Speaker CableMIT Terminator 2 IC's (Oppo 2 chan)Signal Cable HT TWOEpson PowerLite Home Cinema 1080Hisense 55 U8GBelkin PF 60 Power Center -
Ric. I can tell you that the Nuforce is a definite noticable difference vs the DAC's in my av9. There is more bass and a wider soundstage by a decent margin. Just to give you a bit of an idea. When using the av9 dac's I have to turn the bass up in my onboard eq in the av9 to 5 just to match the bass response that the Nuforce dac's have. There is a presence and airyness to the Nuforce that the av9 dac's just dont present. I can also distinguish some faint sounds on the Nuforce to be certain instruments but with the av9 they are just that... sounds... less noticable and not able to tell what they are.
Hey just for ****'s and giggles what are you using for speaker cables? I have some audioquest type 4 bi-wire in a six foot pair(non terminated) that i am not using and i thought i might see if anyone is interested in trying them out and then passing them on to another polkie for a listen. Let me know if you are interested.Onkyo TX NR 5008 modified by The Upgrade Company
