Amps for SDA SRS 1.2tl

I have had a set of SRS,s for a few months now but have not been listening to them for lack of an amp with enough power. I tried to demo a set of Hafler DH-500,s bridged internally to 800wpc. After hooking them up we realized that the Halers are non grounded amps. My question can they be made to work and what will they make the SRS,s sound like. If these are the wrong amps I will keep looking.

    You can always make an AI-1 isolation transformer, which will allow you to use non-ground amps. That said, bridged amps do not like to see less than an 8 ohm load. Your speakers are 6 ohm nominal and dip lower, so they really are not a good choice. Bridging also has other issues not beneficial to good sound such as an increased noise floor.

    F1 nailed that one. Bi-amp them instead. Somewhere herein, someone built a high current variant of the A1(I think it was called the dreadnought or something to that effect-someone else will read this and probably re-link it).

    Thanks Guys, you have been a great help ! I have decided to pass on these amps. I am going to put the speakers back in the spare bedroom until I find the right amp or decide to sell them first.

    Because I have Carver and Sunfire amps, my opinion might be biased. I'd recommend either a pair of Carver TFM-45/55/or 75 or look at the Sunfire 600X2 amps. Any of these should give you enough good clean power for your SRS's.

    A Sunfire 300/2 would have plenty of gas to drive the SRS's and not even break a sweat.
    The Gear...     Sunfire would be a great choice IMO.

    Thanks for the suggestions guys ! Im not going to make any drastic moves just yet. I have 2 sets one Walnut and one Oak and will find the right amp someday.

    Have had both Carver and Sunfire and both are excellent matches for the SDA's.

    I am running mine with a Rotel RB-1090 (380wx2). It's more than enough power to encourage me to monitor the cracks in the foundation of my basement. The damping factor on the amp is >1000 so it controls the drivers quite nicely.

    The damping factor on the amp is >1000 so it controls the drivers quite nicely.

    That's not true. I use to think that the higher the damping factor, the better the amp could control the drivers, but discovered that it is far from the truth. The difference between a damping factor of 50 and 1000 is so small that it is a complete non-factor.

    In fact, I had a Rotel amp in a rig at one time with a 1000 damping factor that could not control the woofers properly. I replaced it with a tube amp, damping factor of 50 that has never had a problem controlling the woofers.

    There is more to it than the damping factor.
