Hey guys. Before too many bottles have been tipped....:o I am looking at getting a new Anthem statement A5 amp.The retail is $3500 plus my tax rate where it would be purchased is 8.5% so the non-negotiated total is $3798.I currently have a B&K 200.7 amp that I use.I have decided to stay with 5.1 for the system.I listened to the A5 today but you know the deal.Different location, speakers ,acoustics, etc...I was very impressed with the amp in both music and ht.I took my own music/movie with me to try to get some type of comparison.I don't think it is the placebo effect on the sound. It is a 5 channel so I would not be wasting those 2 channels.I already have an Onkyo 989 for the bedroom.Okay,I got him down to $2950 cash/check out the door for a new one with obviously full factory warranty.Does it not make since to pull the trigger on this deal?I am not asking for your amp preference, just your opinion on the deal itself......Thx, eddie

A listing on Audiogon says retail is $3199. That's obviously not a bulletproof number, but the seller wouldn't have a reason to make it lower than you could find it, right? You might not have talked the guy down as much as you think, but if this is "it", then you might be hard pressed to get a better deal on this anyway.

Perhaps send a message to people who have sold them on Audiogon in the past and see if they will tell you how much it went for?

I found out this morning the actual retail on the Anthem A5 is $3199,not $3499 as this salesman told me.BTW,thanks to those that did reply to my need for help.So I think I am going to go down there this morning and beat him to death on the price and then say adios. He deserves that much.He said he was a store manager but I doubt it.If I can find the actual owner of the store he will get a nice e/mail or phone call...I forgot to mention I am the very proud owner of a CHL......
