Was the Denon 3311ci selling for $599 on Amazon? If so, was it just for a short time or what? I never saw it that low before, any info would be appreciated.

u shoulda had a listen to Nad or Arcam. There is a reason why they are a step above the run of the mill denon, hk, yamaha etc.

Well if you still want an NAD I have a freind who has a brick & mortar store that is an authorized NAD dealer but they're not listed on his website. He sells Arcam too.

PM me if you are interested because I can get you a considerable discount.

Well I have the Pioneer -23 and I can easily recommend it. It does everything well IMO and I am very picky. It may not have the bells & whistles of some others but it is a very fine sounding receiver. And it's very pretty too I might add. More than once have I bought a receiver and returned it a few days later because I didn't like it and this one isn't going anywhere for quite a while (until I decide to go to a dedicated pre-pro).

Having said that the Marantz and Denon are good choices too.

Like you, I was debating between the 807, 7002, and Elite 23. I can't tell you how many hours I researched AVS and this forum.

It eventually came down to the 7002 and 23. In all honesty I would have pulled the trigger on the 7002 ($599) if it weren't for a stroll at a local Magnolia Hi-Fi (inside Best Buy). They had a display model for $620...with a four year Best Buy warranty it came out to roughly the mid $700s (including tax).

Someone earlier stated that the new line of Elites, except for the SC models, don't have preouts. I'm not too sure about this...take a look VSX33 below:
    http://pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/HomeEntertainment/AV-Receivers/EliteReceivers/ci.VSX-33.Kuro

One of the few reviews of VSX23:
    http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/receivers/pioneer-electronics-vsx-23txh

Whichever receiver you purchase, they're all solid buys...really can't go wrong...unless ya get a lemon.

You'll love the Elite SC-07, its a beautiful AVR with tons of great features. I gotta tell you mole, I envy your buying habits in a bad way. A month on the forum and you have 7 feedbacks. That has to be some kind of a record. If I had your budget, I'd seriously be looking into an RTiA9 based rig. I saw that you're considering $300 AQ speaker wires? Upgrade the speakers first! You're having problems with your Monitors anyway and your other gear is several steps above the Monitor series . . just saying. Energetic new members are always fun. Good luck,

this is a nice looking AVR. its twice the weight of the Denon.

i have it all hooked up, also have the Acurus 250x3 going to my front Monitor 50 and CS2. AVR powering the rear Monitor 40s. the controls are different then the Denon. Denon seemed easier to setup and had the nice on screen display.

turned everything on. took a few minutes to figure it out but set it on tuner. it seemed like it to more volume to get music to come out.
hooked up the BDP-23 to put Avatar on. i watched it last night with the fam so the sounds are fresh in my head. man this BDP is SLOW. i did all the setup and everythiung for it.

watching AVATAR now and i dont hear much of an upgrade. volume with the AMP on seems to be lower.

anything i should be looking at or might be doing wrong?

ill take some pics for you guys

It takes awhile to properly setup, don't expect things to be running at optimal performance right out of the box or within minutes time of getting it.

Get familiar with everything. I find joy in doing that whenever I get a new piece of gear :D

i guess i was just thinking with the AMP hooked up, the AQ ICs it would make a big difference.

I would get the Marantz over the Denon. It's the only Brand i would consider (other than Arcam of course)if i had to go back to a reciever. I had a Denon 3805 and liked it a fair bit but i was so jealous over my brother in law's Marantz sr6300. That thing sounded awesome! More musical than the Denon.

More musical that a Denon 3805? Maybe by a bit? But not much. Those older Denons are IMO better than a lot of the newer models. And I've heard the Marantz 5003, 6003 (I assume we're talking about surround receivers and not 2 channel receivers because there is no 6300 unless that's an ancient receiver?) many times while I was in China....with KEF, B&W, Klipsch, Dali speakers (it sounded best with the Dalis?). Actually I found the Marantz a tad brighter than an 'older' Denon. Nonetheless I think the Marantz is a fine choice (agreed).

I wouldn't expect too much of a difference since you're using Monitor-series speakers. Always read that they don't need much power to really sing. Alot of people are happy having them hooked up to AVR's.

I would expect you to hear some difference though listening to 2-channel/direct mode. More detail+better dynamics? Those were the most apparent differences when I went from AVR to external amp.
