I'm changing up my system and downgrading; I had this mainly for my wife and kids since it has a remote, but it also works very well with my main DAC.

I have the box here somewhere, remote, and of course the AC adapter which only powers the ALPS volume control since it is a passive. It's in great condition; these are STOCK pics though, (for now).

    I'm interested in a passive pre. I wasn't able to find any detail on how this pre works though. Is it a ganged pot, transformer based, or resistor based?

    Review of single stage

    First, it uses a continuous wiper in the potentiometer, meaning that regardless of the volume setting, the number of solder joints in the circuit does not change. It is not stepped, meaning that you cannot easily come back to exactly the same setting once you turn the volume control knob. There are no capacitors in the input or output circuit, which means the impedance changes directly with the volume setting. However, some people rail at the thought of adding capacitors to the signal path. The inside of the VPC-1 shows a very simple layout (photo below).

    I got a CI Audio VPC 2 I believe (same as the one but with 2 outputs (the second can be variable or fixed)

    damn good passive pre, and is my favorite preamp to use with the Carver Platinum Amazings when I set them up. I have a Promethius TVC as well, but there are things I like better with the CI Audio, 2 of which are center imaging and oddly enough, the bottom end is better.

    IF I had a need for more inputs, I'd be all over this. this is a nice cheap way to try passive preamplification....and if you havent...you should.
