Hello people..Just wanted to saw WOW..I was truly amazed at what these speakers can do. We drove down to Oklahoma City to pick them up from nekashi and had them hooked up this weekend..It was an amazing experience. For a while there we even had the skeptical wives listening to them and we were pointing out that you could hear sounds coming out of parts of the room nowhere close to the speakers..they seemed convinced or maybe they were just messing with us (you can never tell with woman)....
Anyway, hope I can find a set someday soon...and just wanted to welcome myself to the vintage section of this forum...

Unlike your neighbors boat. SDA's are better owned.
Congrats. Sounds like you guys had fun.
Keep an eye out. They are out there. -

Thats pretty cool! When mine were set up I had a friend over and he kept rolling his eyes at me. "So where are the other speakers?" he kept asking. He was quite annoyed that I thought I could trick him into thinking these two speakers in front of him were wrapping sound all around the room. Some sounds were coming from the center of a loveseat and he was convinced I had speakers mounted in it. He wasn't so sure after I moved it and the sound was still there. What an awesome speaker!

I have been talking to the KC craigslist guy about lowering his price. Kinda hard for me to justify that price tag especially since the pair in OK city was listed for almost half that. We will see what happens. Can you tell if they are the 1.2's or the 1.2TL's?
If I never find a set for sale can these be reverse engineered from the ground up? the neighbor is real good with wood and has some great wood working equipment..
we have both read a lot about the speakers and I was kinda nervous the first time we turned them on and I was not disappointed at all.. -
Hi guys!! this is the neighbor that Alan (thejck) keeps talking about...I have been a big fan of polk and really disappointed that they dont make these anymore.
It is a truly amazing experience and we were both nervous listening to them for the first time. But so far these are spectacular. -

I'm not very schooled on the big SDA's,so I'm no help on which model they are.
I've always found that when I'm interested in buying,a handfull of cash will go a long way...It doesn't cost anything to make an offer...in person. -
welcome, rwarder. congrats on your score. now...break out your collection of music and get to work.
well, tomorrow. okay, it is tomorrow. whatever. just do it.

So as the old line of speakers get rarer to find and polk seems to have no interest in bringing them back are there other brands of speakers out there that use similar technology? or is this a piece of history that we are looking at that will die out with this generation?

There is no doubt they are unique, and nobody has done what Polk did with a dimentional array (that I know of)... but with the incredible work being done here by Ben, TFL, DK, and many others, the SDA's will survive for generations to come. To many, they are heirlooms that will be passed down to those in the family that appreciate them. Their value tends to be increasing a bit these days as they represent an incredible performance/cost advantage over newer designs. SDA's are here to stay!:)The Gear... Definitely not TL's. SL2000's in the cabinets. Could possibly be 1.2's. He does want too much for them. They have been available for some time now. Perhaps he is ready to negotiate now.

I can see how if you own these speakers you would instill into your offspring the value of these babies and make sure they hold on to them for ages to come.
for those that were not so fortunate we wait to find them on sale and hope for the best
As time flies by does the wood/driver materials deteriorate? What happens when you no longer can find replacement drivers for these speakers and polk no longer stocks them (i belive the passive radiator can only be found used)
I have read bits and pieces here and there about people having some success building sda's based on the existing designs. I think it was Ben who has built them from the ground up.. Is it possible to use after market drivers and build a new cabinet based on existing specs and have a crossover built/designed for you? -

I am still waiting for him to reply to me to see if he is willing to come down closer to what nikashi sold his for.
from reading on here the difference between the original sdas vs the 1.2 were the single screw in the middle of the crossover plate and the pin blade cable vs the blade/blade right?
also the 1.2 can be upgraded to 1.2tl with replacement tweeters and a crossover rebuild? -

Original SRS (same cabinet size and same amount of drivers as the 1.2 and 1.2TL's) - blade/blade
1.2 and 1.2 TL's - pin/blade
Using the crossover plate to determine which model they are is ureliable because Polk used leftover parts on later models to use up their stock.SDA SRS 2.3TL's

Yes.
In addition to that, the negative terminal wire at the tweeter must be changed to a wide blade to accomodate the SL3000/RDO-198 tweeter and the polarity at the tweeter wire harness (Molex connectors which requires a special tool) must be reversed (white wire goes on the positive, colored wire on negative) for all 4 tweeters.
Another important thing to note is that the 1.2 model is known (at least in every instance I've run across) to have the binding posts polarity switched (original production error). I will provide the link to this issue at little bit later on today.SDA SRS 2.3TL's
