I don't usually post the deals I stumble upon, however, this seemed like something that a polkie would like. Amazon has the Marantz sr7002 for $599 w free shipping.

http://www.amazon.com/Marantz-SR7002-Surround-Receiver/dp/B000X14W4G/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_1

I apologize if this should have been posted elsewhere. No, I do not work for amazon...

I'm very happy with my Onk, but I must admit to being tempted to try the Marantz and then sell the one I liked the least. $599 with free shipping seems like a great deal. They probably have a new model out or coming out soon.

    NewHTguy,

Thanks for the quick post on my thread. Like you, I saw the Marantz on amazon. $599 seems like a great deal. This price is so good, I almost wish I hadn't seen it...I've spent so much time debating on whether or not to buy it!

This might be the lowest price we'll see, but how much sweeter would it be if it went down even more?!

I purchased mine off Amazon three weeks ago at $699.00 and now it is $599.00. Unfortunately Amazon stopped the 30 day price match back at the end of 2008. So I am out $100.00. But I am happy with the receiver and purchase. The only thing is that I notivce the receiver runs a little hot and I have it in a open cabinet and i am only drive my rears and center off of it.

I can only guess that the marantz has great two-channel performance for an AVR, which is a priority for me these days. That is the only reason I would be tempted because I otherwise have no complaints about my Onk. However, if you're mainly a HT person, then you may want an AVR with better video processing and maybe even the ability to do 3D. I'll probably keep my Onk until I get the itch for a new 3D capable TV and then I'll have to get a new AVR.

Amen to that. I've never owned an Onkyo that wasn't a small space heater! But somehow they keep working?
