hi all....i have a onkyo tx-sr804, running old cerwin vega dx-9 and klipsch rsx3 surround 7.1. the cv's sound ok to me but wife HATES THEM. i figured i'd spend $1000 on some new front speakers, ditch the cv's. polk direct ebay has refurb rti a9's for $1000/pr. local shop will sell me rti a7's for $450/ea with the free outdoor speakers. i don't really need the outdoor speakers. i have done the pepsi challenge with dx9 vs polk rti a7(sweet). from what i've read here... the smart buy is refurb rti a9 and power amp correct??? of course this route will cost $1000 plus $400-$500 for power amp. should i just take the a7's and run them with the onkyo 804? i have used the search feature, just trying to get my feet wet here with a post...maybe get some new info. thnx and sorry if i have not posted correctly... i didn't see a subject to post this in.

the cool thing about the RTi line is that they sound great on external amplification, but external amplification isn't nearly as critical as it is with the LSi. the RTi's are waaaaay more receiver friendly, and that Onkyo is no slouch.

either way I would go with the 9's and roll them with the Onk and look into external amplification down the road, you can really get a bang for your buck in the used market....especially since you dont need gobs of power to make those RTi's sing.

a Rotel, Parasound, Hafler, tons of options.

that sad, you won't go to wrong with the 7's either, especially if you aren't a volume nut.

Welcome to the trends. I have a pair of RTi A9's and boy do I love them. At the moment I don't have them hooked up to an external amp, but I plan to by the end of this month. I have them hooked up to a Yamaha RX-V1065 and it has no problem pushing these speakers. Do you plan on getting a 2 and a 5 channel amp to run 7.1 amplified?
