Can someone please explain how line-level outputs work? Also, what would you use for a serarate amplifier for a set of speakers in a different room, line outs or preouts?

For a second amp you'd use the "pre-outs." A standard line-level output is not controlled by the volume knob, so you would not want to use this connection as the full volume of the component connected would be passed on to the amp. The Pre-out output is controlled via the volume knob.

If you only have 1 set pre-outs, you can use a Y-connector (get a high quality set) to connect additional amps.
