in need of upgraded receiver

I have decided to upgrade my year old r50s for some newer models. Maybe the monitor 70s or an rti a series in the near future. I, with little knowledge, purchase a denon 1610 back in december. I purchased it because it does audio thru hdmi and has the auto calibration setup with mic and has the ability to tone down loud commericals. Now realizing that the more wattage a receiver has the better they sound and this has 75w per channel I am going to need a better one. A plus on the denon is that it does not get very hot. What receivers are out there that will gvie me the ability to add more wattage to my speakers and contain most if not all of the positives listed above (audio via hdmi, etc...) Thank you. I use the setup for about 98 percent home theater purposes. Occasionally am radio listening, talk radio.

I know it is an older receiver with no hdmi, but what would are some opinions on an HK 7300. Currently its going for 152 from the harman kardon ebay store. Any thoughts?

There is a Pioneer VSX-1018 just added on Audiogon for $299 + ship.

Supposed to have a fairly beefy power supply and supposed to sound quite good.

does the pioneer 1018 have preouts so I can add an amplifier at a later date to run the front speakers?

looks like this might be the receiver I need to replace my denon 1610. Looking on the pioneer website and saw the elite vsx21. What is the difference between it and the 1018 and is it worth the difference?
Also, the 1018 lists at 130wpc at 7 channels, so will that be an issue with my current setup, until I upgrade - r50s front at 150 watts max and monitor 30 rears at 125 watts max?

thanks for the listings. I have never heard of videogon or audiogon before. I know it depends on the seller of course, but in your experience are these sites a bit better then buying of of sellers on ebay? Hate to lay down hundreds of dollars and get something that is not what is described.

    depends on your budget.....
Just right below 1K.......u can get the beefy PIO Elite SC07..
Mid range $500....HK AVR354 or the lower breed AVR254(not sure on the digits)
You could research other brands too like the Onkies and the Yamies.

I had a SONY avr about 10yr old, it was beefy 'till the HDs format came along (TrueHD, DTSMA.etc...) so I was in your shoes too. FYI, if you are not into HDs u can grab a descent older AVRs to play the regular formats and may play better than the new HD compatible AVRs. Based from my 10yr old SONY, this is a fact.

if your receiver has pre-outs, then get an amp. If not, I think the 1910 does.

The 1610 doesn't have preouts, neither does the 1910 or even the 2310. You have to go to the 3310 to get preouts in the Denon line.

I took the leap and purchased the pioneer 1018 from audiogon. Listed and pictures show it is in excellent condition. 2 years old. A high end audio video store is selling it for one of their pioneer reps who is retiring and moving to Florida. Got it for 329 shipped. I hope it pans out.

Good buy...that's before they downsized the 101X series....put it on a diet and took away the pre-outs. You did good!

    Enjoy.
