What road is that? -
Sorry, in rereading my post I realized it could imply something about Leroy. Absolutely nothing of the sort, I just meant getting a harmony to work with my system.
Last time I couldn't quite get all my devices running correctly, but if I recall those pieces are gone, so I thought I would try again. -
If you're not happy with it or can't get it to work properly just send it back. No biggie.
Never had a problem adding a device to it. -
I agree with Kex. I've never had a problem getting any device to work with a harmony remote. Customizing it is by far the most frustrating and time consuming part.
Here's what I've started doing. First, start by just selecting each device and uploading only those to the remote. Skip the activity setup for now. Then, for each device, I go through all the buttons and find out what each one really does, and make notes. This is very helpful, as I now know what buttons I need and which ones are not needed. At that point, I also know if I need to use the original remote to learn any commands. Next, I go through and customize the buttons for each of the individual devices, followed by finally setting up and customizing the activities. -
I remember what I had trouble with now. It was a sony over the air DVR. DHG something, anyway, it was a pretty obscure unit and it was our every day tv watching device. The main feature of the sony's remote was a scrolling clickwheel that you used for almost everything and I could never figure out how to replicate that functionality on the harmony. There probably was some kind of way, but I just couldn't figure it out (or didn't have the patience).
Anyway that sony was replaced by a htpc running windows media center. I looked at the harmony compatibility and it said it could run WMC, so here's hoping for the best. -
I think I understand my problem based on Kex's reply. Because of the scene buttons on my yamaha avr, manual controls get used a lot in my house, and I won't be able to stop that from happening. Unless I spend a lot of time setting up the harmony, it never sends all the right commands to reset everything to the correct settings. I think it can be done, just takes more patience than I have and in the end, the universal remote that came with my avr can handle most of the simple stuff.
Anyway, I am either a harmony dunce, or just don't have the patience to get this thing set up correctly.
Leroy's pic didn't do the remote justice, it's in awesome condition, virtually untouched looking.
I don't want to send it back to leroy, so does anyone else want to give it a try for $50 shipped?
