Done with marantz/accessories4less!?

Well the title says it all. Some of you may remember my previous posts about the Marantz SR6001 refurb. Here's the short version: I ordered a sr6001 refurb from accessories4less, and it had a hum and went into "protect". So I returned it for an exchange which was handle through marantz. Yesterday I received my replacement. It worked ok last night, but went into protect mode once. Today, protect mode happens as soon as it's powered up:mad: (I had my trusty old techmnics running just fine when I was waiting for my replacement sr6001, and just fine before that as well). I guess this is truely a case of it was too good to be true:o I mean I should have known I was asking for trouble when I was able to purchase a $1200 dollar receiver for $370. I will add that the customer service was good from both companies involved(marantz/accessories4less), but I think it is time to give up with this situation and go somewhere else. I've checked and double checked twice now, and can find no problems with wiring etc. I've received two defective units in a row. I've had two other receivers running with the set up without problems? Am I right in saying I'm done with this? Should I quit marantz and accessories4less, or should just ask for another exchange from them and try a different make/model? I don't know what the best course of action would be, and frankly, I just don't have the cashflow to spend any more money than I already have:( Is there another comparable receiver(spec wise) that could be had for the same money? Have any of you had the same type of situation occur? Please help me here before I really get too mad and frustrated! I just want a freaking receiver that sounds decent and works, thats all.

If they are paying for the return shipping, and shipping back to you, you should keep trying to get a good one.

I'm running sony 8ohm speakers for surround and monitor 11ts for front(B) when listening to music. The 11ts are rated for 6ohms, but the marantz should handle that just fine. I've checked and double checked ALL wiring. It will go into protect mode with nothing hooked up. I even checked the voltage, on the wall outlet. I'm just getting a little fatigued with this ya know? I've been waiting for my replacement for almost 2 weeks, and now that I got it, I'm right back where I started!Sony 40" LCD

If it were I in your situation I would be making a phone call demanding a good unit within a reasonable time, of 4 working days. You need to let them know that you can take your business elsewhere. That is a very good unit for the price you are paying. I would give it another shot. -
I know. It is a great price for that unit, but it is a refurb. I thought factory refurbs with factory warranty were a safe bet, and I thought marantz was a great product. I'm not saying marantz is bad, but maybe their refurbs are not such a safe bet? Either that, or I'm one of the most unlucky people. I'm hooking up the old faithful technics that I just can't seem to kill right now. I can't do anything about it until monday, and I gotta have my sound:( When the sr6001 was working it sounded great, and the audyssey was awesome to, but I'm pretty gunshy at this point. I wish I could call them and raise hell right now and get something happening, but no I get to "stew" about it the rest of the weekend:(Sony 40" LCD

I had considered buying a refurb Onkyo from them at one point. Both Marantz and Onkyo are supposed to stand by the one year warranty on certified refurbs on that site. So you should deal with both Marantz and the A4less people and give them a dose of their warranty?
I ended up buying recertified from Onkyo directly. All I can say is no problems so far and the damned unit looks like a 10/10. I can find no flaws, no scratches. The remote is NEW, and the unit is pristine? And has the 1 year warranty.
I'm sure the Marantz should be as good and that they will stand behind their warranty.
Good Luck.

There is no question that Marantz is a quality brand. They are sold at many high-end walk-in salons, and those boys are usually pretty picky on what they sell in each price class.
Just look at it this way; you have something to look forward to.:p -

+1 try again. That is what the warranty if for.
Although I know how you feel-it sucks having just got something and you spend a lot of time shipping and waiting.
If you still have the 2nd unit-did you try in another are of the house?
When you say "nothing hooked up" do you mean truly nothing but power connected?
Are you connecting into a power center or direct to the wall?
Call Marantz CS and see if they can walk you through determining what the issue is.
I bought a refurb Onkyo from eCost about a year ago and haven't had any issues with it. And like cnh it was 10/10.
Getting a factory refurb can be a bit of a gamble since you really don't know if the factory simply fixed a problem, or never reproduced a problem (and it still existed somewhere) or if it was just simply a return. Of course its getting a factory seal of approval sooo. In the audio world buying used is commonplace. So I wouldn't be gunshy about buying almost new from the factory, unless you would never buy used audio gear of course.____________________

I bought my SR5002 from accesories4less and also ran into problems where they would not include the calibration mic until several phone calls later. But for the price I am still happy.Marantz SR5002

I picked up the Marantz sr4002 (new one) from accessories4less. Great service no problems with product (knock on wood). I could have bought a refurb for like 40-50 bucks less but did not and after seeing this post I'm glad. However, I have spoken to the owner of accessories on the phone in the past, very helpful and knowledgeable. See if you can get him on the phone and explain your situation. I love Marantz products by the way, I have owned many over the years. I just sold my trusty av550 preamp on ebay. Had it for 9 years with no problems.

I'm glad another comment popped up on this as I have an update! I was gonna wait until the unit arrived, but I"ll go ahead now:) As I stated before, I have had absolutely NO problems with the customer service at accessories4less or Marantz. They were both more than willing to help me resolve the problem. Anyway, I emailed marantz and spoke with accessories4less on monday. Accessories for less offered to upgrade me to the new sr6001 which was what I was considering, until I got a surprisingly pleasing response from Marantz:D Marantz showed great conscern for my problem and said they wanted to do right by me and immediately sent me a ups label to return the unit. The good part is they are sending me an NEW SR6003 at no additional cost to me:D:D:D It arrived friday, but I wasn't here to sign for it:(, so I will pick it up from fed ex on monday! I don't at all hold acessories4less responsible for the bad units. I hold the techs who do the "refurbishing" at marantz responsible for that one. I'll tell you guys like I told marantz(they actually called me). I will likely be a marantz buyer for life because of this, not because of the product, but because they stand behind their product. I work in a field where I deal with similar situations, and I tell people all the time that equipment is only as good as the service. No matter how good the equipment is, it's worthless if the service sucks and can't keep it going. I guess it really struck a nerve when marantz offered send me a newer more costly model free of charge. That just goes a long way in my book. I mean hey, look at it like this. I went through alot of BS trying to get a "new" receiver that worked, and it was a pain in the ****. However, I paid $370 for the refurb sr6001, and now I'm receiving a an sr6003, which I've seen no where cheaper than about $750. Pain in the ****, yes! Getting a better deal in the end, definitely:D Anyway, so on another note, does anyone here have an sr6003? I'm curious to what you think about it. Also, what are the differences in power etc. The sr 6001's power consumption topped out at 750w, but the sr6003's is 600w. Is that a bad thing? That's my update for now. I will post again and let you guys know what I think once I get the sr6003 hooked up:D Thanks!Sony 40" LCD

Congrats. CS is as important as build quality and price. The truly outstanding products have all 3 going for them.
As far as power differences, I would guess looking at the fact they (6001/6003) are both 100wx7 output and the 6001 uses 750W and weighs in at 33 lbs. compared to the 6003 600w and 29 lbs that they have reduced a little in the power supply. Just a guess, can't comment on whether it is a good or bad thing. -

Wow, thanks for the update. Really good to know that Marantz took care of you like this because I'm always looking at their products with interest. If they had crappy service I would not even entertain the thought of buying their product.

I just got an Marantz SR6001 from Accessories 4 less. It sounded great and worked for two days now the stand by light is flashing. I was nervous until I read all the good things people have to say about the Accessories 4 less customer service. I am waiting for them to return my call or email and will let every one know how it work out.

Both companies have a good rep................but perhaps it's time to move onto something else. Sometimes bargains just don't work out like they should.

Good to hear you stayed with the marantz, they seem to be the craftsmen of AVR's with their warranty. I love mine but wish it had a trigger.

Thanks everyone I really appreciate the re-assurance:). So far I have been pleased with the customer service from Accessories 4 less and Marantz. I received a prepaid UPS shipping label via my email, from Marantz and dropped the SR6001 at my local UPS shop today. I will keep you posted.
-
Still waiting. It was delivered on Thursday at 12:00 and i am yet to here back. I sent an email to see what was up on Friday and again today and have yet to get a response. I called today and the guy on the phone said he didn't know anything and that i had to wait to hear back from the person who sent me the UPS label. I would have appreciated some sort of conformation. I was under the impression that once they got the old reviver they would send me a replacement

What many people may not be aware of is the SR6001 had many problems from the begining. It was not one of the most reliable units Marantz made.
It's unfortunate because Marantz is a great company that produces reliable products. But even good companies produce some duds on occasion.
Sorry to hear about the issues. But it looks like Marantz took care of you.
