OPPO BRP and Avatar

Posted this in Music/Movies, but this gets more hits!

Avatar is the first movie in 6 months the OPPO would not play. The movies warns about the need for firmware updates. Has anyone had to do this? Or should I just try another disc? After loading and then giving the Columbia ( I think) Pictures intro, it goes to Top Menu with black screen and no button works except eject.

Thanks

I had this happen with another movie. A firmware update took care of the problem.
If you have BD Live enabled, try disabling that, and see if that works. It works for some titles.

Is the easiest way to get the update to hook up my laptop to the USB port on the BRP and go to OPPO for the update? Thanks.

It seems like this takes a different usb connector with the wide end on both ends (whatever the wide end is called----out?) have to see if I have one...

check your manual.....my panasonic will let you do an update if you download it to your computer, burn it on a disk, and then run it in the player.

Played back perfectly on my Oppo. Use a thumb drive as it is the easiest. The Oppo won't download beta firmware so you'll either have to burn to CD or USB thumbdrive. I prefer thumbdrive so I'm not sitting here waiting for a burn. Simple and easy, but download the latest, I'm running the beta software and everything plays fine.

True, but once you load the beta firmware, it will then auto-notify and download future beta firmwares if you're connected to the 'net.

I knew this sounded too easy. I have downloaded both updates. I then burned with Sonic and then on a different disc with the Toshiba burner. All I get to burn is the same single icon with the .iso file type. I do not get the several files that OPPO says should be burned to the disc.

I gather this might because I am not burning as an Image Disc....?....I knew data and audio....and tho9ugh image was part of data....help????

The Sonic burner does not give an Image to Disc burn option and the Toshiba keeps giving me an error message (unexpected error, of course).

Yeah, but they're pretty safe. I haven't had an issue yet with Oppo's beta firmwares.
