Audio: Bitstream Cable or Optical?

Hello,

My DVD is capable of using either the bitstream audio out or an optical audio out. Just wondering if anyone has noticed an advantage of using one over the other, or if it is more a matter of the AVR making the difference here.

    This is one of those highly debatable topics. If your cable run is under 6', go with the digital coax cable. Just make sure its a good quality shielded cable rated for 75 Ohm. (audio interconnects are not good enough)

    Rumor is that optical are better for longer distances between equipment and are not prone to RF interference. Digital coax however works good enough for shorter runs but a cheap cable will have you going bonkers.

    The other school of though is....why take a digital signal, process it into a light beam, then convert the light beam back into a digital signal? More conversions, more chances for something to error or slip by....
