what are you guys using for UPS

i am wanting one for mainly Automatic voltage regulation, what do i need for my setup, have a pioneer elite VSX-21xh, SVS PC12-NSD, PS3, Cable box, Wii, and Panasonic 50inch plasma.

    Brown outs.....never had one. Black outs, yeah.

    I can understand the need for UPS with a computer as they really don't like getting shut down suddenly, but with audio/video gear it's just like you turned the power switch off, so it's no biggie.

    Anyway, back to brown outs. Obviously, I don't know much about them as we don't get them here. Are we talking about time durations in seconds, minutes or hours?

    I've experienced brown outs from a few seconds up to about 3 hours... Not since i've gotten into this hobby though, knock on wood.
    I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

    Jesse, the brown outs I've seen were for between about 7 to 30 seconds. My brother's VCR (bought back in 1985 and cost $1,400:eek:) was damaged by the brown out. It would sometimes shut itself off in the middle of playing a tape. Serious damage to electronics can happen from brown outs.

    I use Monster Power's 7000/3500 UPS. If you need the voltage stabilization in a UPS then check this out on Audiogon. In my own set up I have converters but that's because I'm out here in Japan.

    i live in a old part of town, its historic, and sometimes when bass hits lights dim, also i have a self built gaming computer thats power supply is rated at 1200 watts, i just wanna make sure all my expensive electronics are getting there recommended voltages at all times, i am also going to put one on my computer, asking the same question in a different forum for that though as to most of you guys wouldn't understand if i gave the specs of my computer haha

    I experience brown outs during daytime in the summer. For my HT rig I'm using a Belkin Pure AV 1500VA Hybrid UPS. Sometimes the incandescent lights on my gear will dim slightly, otherwise the transition is seamless. It will have a slight affect on dynamics, but with fairly efficient speakers and a beefy amp, it's not too bad.

    I use a separate UPS for my PC rig/music server, I don't want to overtax my stereo's UPS.

    That's because you are taxing (asking too much from) the circuit your gear is on. It's got nothing to do with low voltage, it's got to do with the amperage draw and a UPS isn't going to help you with that issue. The real solution is to have a dedicated line run for your gear or purchase a power regenerator.

    well thats not what i want to here, i think in this case i'll need to have my whole house rewired, or a power regenerator, how much does that cost...grrr...

    Do you have a circuit breaker box or a fuse box? If you have a circuit breaker box, what is the amp rating? If you have a fuse box, you should have it upgraded to a circuit breaker box anyway.

    PS Audio makes an excellent power regenerator that retails for $1700.00. Used should be around $1100.00 to $1400.00
