long winded receiver question

Some background first....Been very happy with my B&K 307 for many years now. Power, processing,SQ, all outstanding. I added a bdp recently,a pioneer bdp 320, happy with that, I run legacy focus 20/20's up front and some fx500 for the rears and thats it,no center,no sub. The B&K allows signals to be sent to assigned speakers. So if no center or sub, those signals are sent to speakers designated as large, instead of being lost. Bass management is also done in the digital domain. So no sub in my set up,but when I play a regular dvd, that signal is sent to the fronts, the focus handle this very well.Follow me so far? It does this only in the digital domain though, not by way of the analog inputs. Found this out when I had the bdp player hooked up by analog, but seemed to be missing something in the lower end. Crap, it hit me,and sure as shite, it doesn't do this re-routeing in the analog domain. So here is problem one. As we all know by now,all BD are not created equal. Some don't have a plain DD soundtrack. Been researching avr's and can't find info on how they re-route signals,if any do,in the hdmi world. Was looking at the Pioneer Elite vsx 21 txh, the bottom of the elite line, but for 500 bucks, you get alot. So questions remain.....

1- Do any receivers send the new audio codecs to assigned speakers without loss of info ?

2- Is the re-routing of signals an exclusive thing to B&K ?

3- Am I **** out of luck because buying a center and sub is out of the question right now?

I realize a center and a sub added would make the world go round but cash is tight. The center and sub I would need to keep up with the fronts would add 2 g's easy and thats used. The addition of a hdmi receiver seems more cost effective, if they did signal routeing like the B&K that is.

Been going through some online manuals for different receivers and most are somewhat vague on what I want to know. Maybe Dan could chime in,since he has experience with a wide range of avr's.

If you were to go with AVR with HDMI inputs you could still run your setup as you are now. The only difference is you can enjoy the HD audio codecs over HDMI. In the new Pioneer you will be able set the center/sub to NO. If you are using a Pioneer, MCACC will pick this up and make those settings for you. From there info will be sent to fronts which will be set as large.

Also with your budget try to get your hands on a Pioneer Elite SC-05. I think you will be able to find one for around that price tag your looking for.

Yep, you're running into the problem I was somewhat unsuccessfully trying to explain to you in another thread. Analog outs bypass a lot of the digital processing of the AVR and can be a drawback if you want this processing you paid good money for.

I know that manuals can be rather vague on the rerouting that AVRs do for 'missing' speakers. But from my understanding, it's pretty standard to send missing subwoofer info to the fronts set to large as stated above. I would imagine that AVRs should have some intelligent way of re-routing info from any missing speaker since they offer options for deleting speaker channels from the set-up in the first place.

Just a thought, did you check the set-up options in your blu-ray player to see if there is a robust speaker management option there? I seem to remember back when I was configuring a DVD-A player for analog outs that it also had a speaker management set-up screen.
