Back ground :http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93523

First off , after tons of lurking and even more research , I want to thank everyone here for all the great info. I have found so far. I'd also like to thank whomever for the good search function this site has.

Sooo , I'm getting caught back up on what is current.
I'm looking at pre/pros right now.

It seems that B&K and Sunfire both have great reputations. I'm looking at B&K reference series and Sunfire's TGP 's - used market.

More accurately , a TGP-4 vs a REF-50-S2 .....

Any clear cut winner here , and why ? , or will either do nicely for me.

What I'm putting together right now will serve as my basic living room stuff , until the basement entertainment room is built.

Looking towards Carver/Sunfire/B&K amps also ....

I would steer you towards a TGP-5 for the simple reason that it does allow for hdmi connections whereas the TGP-4 does not. The 5 does not support HDMI audio however. I am not familiar with BK gear so cannot comment there. You are more than welcome to come on down and take a listen to my rig if you like.

HA , I saw your sig. awhile ago and meant to start up that dialog :)

    Thanks for the reply.

Now , if I got this right , HDMI in's & outs are switches only. Correct ?
It would be nice to have that capability , but since it is so new , those devices are still $$$ !

Who knows , by the time the rec. room is finished , they may be where I'd want them price-wise.

The TGP5 can be had for about 900/1200 right now so the dollar factor is not so far out of whack.

Here is what I let slip by .... just had a bad feeling .... didn't bid.

Prolly look for a nice minty older model of either.
Try to jump into this on the cheap side and see what works for me before I look at laying out bigger money.

Curious about Sunfire's future , they just went through Chap.11.
