Speaker distortion

Hey, I purchased 4 polk ex572a 5x7 speakers a few months ago and had them installed at a local circuit city along with 2 dx12's powered by an mtx 4x75 watt amp bridged into 2 channels to power the subs. The subs sound great but i find that my interior speakers distort terribly when turned up to only a little over 1/2 volume. They are powered by an Alpine 4x40 head unit. The speakers have always sounded like this. Are they defective or is it something wrong with my setup (doubtful, i have checked everything). If so what can i do?

...I have had speaks in cars sound like puppy **** if not fed enough power...

That alpine is probably starting to clip, esp at halfway up or more on the vol knob. You probably only have 14-16 watts RMS out of the headunit anyway....they could possibly be UNDER powered...

Bassblockers-a MUST if you want them to crank....

    Cheers,
