I've read a little bit on this topic, but not sure what is good or bad.Take B.A.T.for example. They build preamps and power amps. The output imp. of their pre amps is generally around 200 ohms where as the input imp. of their power amps is 47,000 to 100,000 ohms. This tells me that a low output imp. to a high input imp. is the way to go.Does this make sense to all you tech people.

I read somewhere that there should be a ratio of 20:1 as a minimum. (for an output impedance of 1 k ohm, minimum input impedance of 20 k ohm).

So yes, low output and high input impedances should work ok.

Okay, my pre out is 600 ohms the amp in is 22,000 ohms which is a raito about 36 to 1 so it must be a good combination.

It really doesn;t matter, unless you are at one extreme or the other. Meaning if the output is so low you aren't getting full dynamics or output is so high that you can barely move off the lowest point.

This is assuming you are using a typical gain device like a std. volume pot. and there is an active stage in your pre-amp. This would be for most common electronics.

Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Yes it's active with an alps v-pot
