I just purchased 2 lsi9s, a lsic center, and 2rti28s- also HK 520 receiver. I thought that I would suprise my wife with sound system.---- Now what I thought would be easy is going way over my head--- shoul have been on this forum before any purchase. I've read not to buy monster cable--- go for bluejean or better cable or kimber cable ---- and I guess that the amp that I just bought is not going to work verywell with my speakers. Oh -- and biwiring is somewhere in the equation also. I NEED HELP---- ANY AND ALL would be greatly appreciated. I'm an old hippy that doen't like real loud music just great sounding tunes--- thats why I went with polk
went to a lot of places listening--- for me polk was the best---- I have a toshiba 36 HFX71 TV, toshiba 4800 dvd, sony vcr-- wiring to the receiver will also be fun-- what would be good wires for quality sound and video--- would a parasound halo 52A amp work with my system or even be needed.

The Harman 520 will work with the LSi's(4ohm) and Rti's(8ohm). Especially if you dont play it really loud, and do set them to small if you have a sub. A power amp will sound better and play louder. Monster is decent cable, works fine, but some say it is not good for the money. I dunno, I use home depot wire.

    Speaker Wire - IXOS

Cables - Radio Fusion or w/e..Im not sure

    Amps - Adcom, NAD, AMC

Make sure your receiver has preouts. Enjoy
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Please don't get caught up in wire hype. My suggestion before you buy any wire is to goto your local store and demo the wire, if you can hear a difference and like it then go for it, otherwise save your money for something else.

The 520 should be fine as long as you have a small room and dont blast it.

the parasound (halo) that you mentioned will be a noticable improvement over the 520's built in amplifiers. You can use the 520's pre-outs to connect to the A52. I am not sure why you mention the A52 specifically, maybe you can get a good deal on one, but I would demo some other amplifiers in that price range before you sink that much money into equipment.

I would get your main rig setup before you worry too much about wires. Sounds like you are on your way.

The Parasound Halo is a very strong amplifier, great sound, quite pricey. I would check out the HCA line, its very much a performer also. Parasound isn't a name used around here often.

Ceruleance is dead on, there are alot in the Halo bracket to think about....look around first.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    npm,

    First, welcome to the Club.

I agree with those above urging you to go slow when comes to wires and even IC's. Home Depot wire will do nicely as will stock IC's for now.

Once you are running and establish a baseline, then you can experiment with wire and draw your own conclusions as to their worth.

YUP!!! plus I never brought by 520 to its knee's:confused: not sure why all that was said. The lfe clips over a -5 but outside of that you have some really good processors that are fun to experiment with.

I say return the HK, get the 52A and either the C1 or C2, you'll not look back. As for cables, Kimber, Transparent, Nordost, Acoustic Zen (great name since you're a old hippie) and my personal favorite....MIT. Don't worry about bi-wiring....over-rated (even though I do), but really the question is how much money do you want to spend? The more clean power you feed the Polk's the better it will sound at lower volumes.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum and Monster sucks.

If you do not have a dealer that has these brands of cables or a dealer that will let you audition them at home in your system before you buy them, I would recommend that you try out The Cable Company at www.fatwyre.com. They have just about any power cord, interconnect, or speaker cable that exists in their library of cables. They will let you borrow a few cables from this library to try out and to compare for a couple of weeks. I used them when I bought a new power cord for my receiver. They are very easy to work with and the final cost after me paying for shipping and them giving me a discount for writing a review of the cables was about the same as the cable's MSRP. I am going to use them again when I upgrade my speaker cables later this year. It is very important that you try out a cable in your system, since their effect on the sound and sound stage is very system dependent, and using The Cable Company allows you to do that.

BTW, as far as a recommendation for a cable brand is concerned, I would like to add Analysis Plus to that list. I bought their Power Oval power cord and am very pleased with it. I also want to say that although I too am not a fan of Monster, I do think their 12 awg speaker cable that you can get from a bulk spool at CC is pretty good for the price. That's what I am using for now.
