I am tempted to try something new. I am wondering what anyone's thoughts are on trying this over my outlaw 950 pre and B&K amp combo? I am a fan of external amplification - would it be better to use the onkyo as a pre with the b&k?

I'd use that Onkyo as a preamp and use the B&K at least as the amp for your mains, maybe even bi-amp mains if they are bi-ampable.

805 is excellent for processing sound, it decodes all modern high-def sound formats, has HDMI, and a really great receiver overall.

I think the xx5 onkyo's are an incredible value; especially the 705 and 805.

Good price, for a great product. Good luck with the sale.

Wow, somebody is getting one hell of a deal, the 805 is, IMHO, one of the best AVR's Onk has made in a long time excluding their NR series, this thing is a beast!! Has the Burr Brown's and an amazing amp section. Wish I had gotten this one back when I got my 806. Anywhoot, good luck with the sale. Looks like you already have one on the line, lol. Wanna trade for my 806?? :D

    +1,

I've also been happy with the 805 as a pre and by itself when powering 8 ohm speakers...I sometimes use it with an Adcom! Depending on what speaker set I have in place?

400 for a receiver whose audio can rival 1500 dollar AVRs and whose MSRP was about a 1000 seems like an unbelievable steal to me.

I consider the 805 one of Onkyo's BEST all time values.....pound for pound....great power...good sound...excellent HT processing 50.9lbs?? What is there to think about? Get out your checkbook now...I really like mine!

Thanks for all the kind words guys. Just think, a lucky buyer can have this unit up and running perfectly for the remainder of the football playoffs :)

Anyway here are the pics. The flash exagerrated the scratches on the rear edge. They were so little that I easily touched them up with a black sharpie after the photos and now its not even noticeable

I look forward to trying it out. I could not pass this up. I have read reviews on the 805 and I never saw anything negative on this receiver. I needed an AVR receiver with HDMI inputs. I think this should work out very well.:D

I just upgraded to the 805 from the 605 and the sound is just better all around. The high end is smoother and the amp section is much more robust, able to push somewhat hard to drive speakers where the 605 would have most likely farted and died. Best integrated for the money on the market in years.
    Currently looking for speakers(spending 1K)
    Onkyo 805
