Hey,

Just wondering if anyone here is using a Denon AVR-5600. I know it's an older receiver and doesn't have many of the new features or audio formats found on today's units, but I'm guessing it would work great for primarily music system. I can't really find much on it on the web as far as specifications go, but which audio formats does it play? Anything I should know if I decide to pick up one of these locally. What are they worth today?

Thanks,

Jerry

I can pick one up for $225, what do you guys think? What would it be like compared to my current Denon AVR-2805?

Thats a steal for that unit, snatch it up or let one of us. You can use that receiver with the new audio formats by way of the analog inputs. Check the online owners manual or shoot over to the owners thread at the AVS forum for info on resetting.

On my lower model Denon which was built the same year here is what you do:
    1. Unplug the unit
    2. Press the speakers A and B buttons together and hold them
    3. Plug in the unit
    4. The display will flash a few times
    5. Let go of the A and B buttons
    6. That is called reseting the microprocessor to the factory defalts

The seller will be dropping the unit off on monday, can't wait.:) This should be pretty interesting. Tony, what do you mean by way of analog inputs?

I'm assuming you ment the new audio formats as the ones that blu-ray offers. If so, your blu-ray player must have analog outputs that can be connected to most any receiver with analog inputs. Know what I'm saying chief?

That way the blu-ray player will do the decoding of the hi-res formats and pass them to the AVR-5600. You got a great deal.

I know you guys are saying, but I'll have to pick up a bluray player before I have to worry about that. Thinking about waiting till I upgrade or buy a new computer and then just use that as a bluray player. Which formats does the AVR5600 support? Does it have DTS, or was that before its time?

I need to go find a manual for this thing...

Hmm... I can't seem to find an online manual for the 5600. Any body have a link? I searched AVS forum and Home Theater forum, but can't find anything.

Well, I've just discovered how large this unit is, depth to be more specific. Turns out, the unit is just under 20 inches deep, about 3 or 4 inches more than I anticipated. Because of its size, it won't fit on my desk, where my current receiver sits (only 17 inches deep). And the other area I was hoping of using it is a built in cabinet space only 20 inches deep. So now I'm not sure I will be able to even use this monster. :(

If the seller is still willing to bring the unit by under these circumstances, and I decide to pass, is there anyone here that would like the seller's information so they might be able to pick up this unit? I'm in Windsor, Ontario. Close to Detroit, Michigan.

Well, I just spoke with the seller. He measured it for me with an RCA on the rear, just over 20 inches. The cabinet I wanted to put it in in just under 20 inches deep, so, it won't fit anywhere... Seller seemed pretty upset when I told him I couldn't use it. But I made an honest mistake. I was unaware of how deep it was, and made an effort to let him know that I might not be able to use it before he made the drive out here. I even gave him the option to not make the drive out given the circumstances... I'm not going to buy something I can't use.

    Am I in the wrong?

    Hi,
If your bag is home theater this receiver is BAD ****. But unfortunately I'm bored with the whole home theater deal. I am going to get back into good old fashioned stereo music. That is where the 5600 fails music through my Def-Tech 2000 sounds to high even with 500 watt subs in each. But if your looking for excellent home theater dynamics and punch look no further this baby delivers the goods. Excellent channel separation and oodles of power and a 1st rate pre-amp section. If you want a great home theater system this is the way to go if you can find them. If not E-Mail me and I'll sell you mine.

I just picked up a used Denon 5800 with the Aktis RC-8000 LCD touchpanel remote control. I have read that it is hard to use and to get the unit set up.

Anyone have anye xperience with this remote? and any thoughts about it?

    Thx.

After all these years, I finally replaced my Denon AVR-5600 with an AVR-990, mostly for the hdmi stuff and DTS/TrueHD decoding.

It's now looking for a good home, so if anyone's interested please let me know by email (brianbjg@tekserv.com) with an offer. It's in great condition and has the original remote. The remote was hardly used, as I have a pronto universal. Also, this unit does not have the DTS upgrade.

I can ship it, or if you want to pick it up, I live in the Boston, MA area.
    Thanks
