Has anyone had any experience with this type of speaker wire? The ribbon style like Monster Cable SuperFlat? I am needing to run some wire under the carpet for my surrounds and wondering what would be my best bet?

I have some Radio Shack 14 guage flat on my surrounds and it works just fine. Just for the hell of it I doubled it up but could not really tell the difference.

I have tried the Monster flat wire as well as the cheaper RCA flat wire which looks the same. I could not tell the difference between the two and both were easily as good as other types of common cable. In addition to trying it in the house I wired my car stereo with it for exactly the same reason you mention. I don't think you will have any problem with it. The reason most people use it is because it has a larger surface area (where most of the current travels) and is supposedly supperior to the same guage round wire. Solid core wire is supposed to have less distortion but if you are currently using stranded cable then I don't think you will notice any degregation in sound.

has anyone used flat wire on walls and then painted over them??

I am considering doing that. The AR microflat looks like it would work.. Pretty thin jacket..

Anyone know of any others like this, maybe ones they've used..

    thanks...

I wouldnt put it up on the wall and then paint over it, if you took it down it would leave a nice ugly line. Paint the wall first and paint the speaker cable and then run it along the wall.

Also, don't buy monster for this application, you can get other brands much cheaper and its the same copper stranded wiring, same guage.

I have the Monster stuff and I don't have any complaints. I haven't compared it to anything else, but considering that to hide it I'd be needing around 40 feet to the rear surrounds, I'm not about to go out looking to spend more money on them right now......
