The MF A5 CDP that is on the way to me has a 6112 tube in it. I ordered a new tube already from Brent Jessee Recording. It should be a better sounding tube than the stock one.

Does anyone know if its a simple plug in tube like the ones in my pre-amp or does it have to be soldered in?

I did speak to David at Signal Path and he was not sure how to upgrade/replace the tube.

I am in love with tubes :o

Why would David at Signal Path know and why would you ask him?

I bought the MF from him/signal path and seems like a knowledgeable guy. I figured he was a good place to go with that question. I figured wrong since he didn't have the answer :o I was surprised he didn't have the answer. So now I either wait and find out for myself when it arrives or ask you guys.
And they move a lot of MF products.

I asked him a few technical questions about his Peachtree Nova and he wasn't able to answer me.

He told me I can call him anytime,so I did, and if I don't like the player or have an issue with it he will personally take care of it for me. A salesman much more so than a technician I guess.

For some reason its taking forever for the player to get here!!!

The 6112 is a sub-miniature military tube and it has to be soldered to the board.

What brand of 6112 did Brent Jesse sell you and why do you think the stock Sylvania 6112 needs to be upgraded?

I didn't ask Brent for a lot of details on the 6112 and for the $20.00 cost was not concerned about it as much as how the tube fits to the unit. I basically told him to ship one to me and I'll worry about everything else later.
My thinking was/is the stock tube is probably a cheap china manufactured tube that should be replaced sooner or later.

The stock tube is a Sylvania as I stated. The only other 6112 available is from Raytheon, neither are from China.

That's good to know. Since it can be only one of the two I'm guessing Raytheon. I will know for sure tomorrow when it arrives.
I am afraid the MF won't be here till the 29th and not planning to do anything other than listen to it for awhile. We'll see what happens and of course will post pictures.

**** man too soon to say but it is a good looking unit and the MIT IC's are hooked up too. I had to run out with my wife 20 minutes after she got home to go shopping. I was just finishing hooking up the speakers when she got home and didn't ask a question. The reason I was hooking up the speakers was I put the Audioquest Mammoths back in play.

I assume I should leave the system run for awhile to get the new IC's burned in. I hooked up the Signal cable PC to the Belles Amp for now but its is used and in perfect condition so no need to burn them in, not that I have a choice.

My brother and a great friend and I were out Christmas shopping all day today. When Fed-Ex showed up with three packages for me I was truly surprised and happy. I also already had a nice glow on from a few cocktails.

Its going to be difficult to listen for a few days now but I guess a good time to let things burn in at a low volume.
