Setting up small 2 channel system

I am trying to put together a 2 channel set up for jazz/classical/acoustic. I want to build around the Lsi9s because I like the sound. What do you think about using an Emotiva Upa2 power amp with a Usp1 preamp. It seems like the power rating of the amp will be appropriate for the speakers (185/ch into 4 ohms) so that I could expect decent sound. For a source, I plan to use a Sony Es cd player for now. The system, not including the cd player will cost me about $1,600 and that is the limit I can spend right now. Any thoughts?

I don't think 185 watts into 4 ohms is enough for the LSi's. I think you would be disappointed with the UPA2 amp.

    Monkey Man:

I believe you're making a mistake. Try a simple integrated amplifier. Wattage is meaningless at best. I would look at a SimAudio i-5080/i-3/i-5 used. Even a Naim5i would be a better suggestion.

Gentlemen, thanks for your responses. What about an Adcom amp/preamp? I had a 545 amp back in the day and was please with the sound & performance. I don't need crazy loud listening levels, but I like clean sound and tight bass response. Thanks again.

I think a big improvement would be an outboard DAC for your Sony ES... use it as a transport and let something newer do the processing. You'll be pleasantly suprised.
