I will first say that it was not my choice to get DN I wish we went back to directv but my fathers friend works for DN and promised a good deal. Anyway. We have one main receiver in the living room. Their are no cables going upstairs as of this point. What I would like to do is know 2 things. How much extra are people being charged for a second reviver. Also I hear that their was a 2 room reviver would that be better? The only reason I am asking is if it is not to much I might have to ran upstairs as the wires can be ran threw the walls where the others are.

From my understanding of how Satellite TV works, you not only need another receiver, but another receiver on the dish as well (or at least some special kind of splitter). When my uncle had Dish Network, it was about $5/mo./box for the lease. I don't know a thing about the two room receiver, so I can't help you there. The other thing about running the wire is that you have to run a special kind of coax for satellite TV, I believe that it is Quad Shielded RG6, which is different from normal RG6 in that normal RG 6 has 1 Ghz of bandwidth, and the quad shielded cable has 3 Ghz of bandwidth (also required for HDTV). By reference, broadcast studios use cable rated for 4.5Ghz of bandwidth.

I already have the proper wire in a 1000 ft roll lets just say my father cuts the line a lot from shoveling. But you do not need another transponder on the dish from what I have seen and read and unless dish is different than direct once you buy the box it is yours. But of cores this is why I am asking.HT setup

Well, here's some information about the dual reciever you mentioned, it's probably more useful than me explaining it Dual Tuner receiver
As far as the lease thing goes, if your a new customer, to get one of the new receivers, you have to lease it, you don't have the option of buying it, I guess it's different if your an existing customer. Some of the new relievers are also in short supply and that may be why it's lease only...but here's an excerpt from Dish's own site...
EDIT: I see from reading the FAQ and from talking with an installer friend, it looks like you don't need a second transponder, but you do need a multi switch, either a 1x2 or a 3x4...
Why does DISH Network charge a receiver lease fee for my Standard or High Definition receiver?
The receiver lease fee for the first activated receiver on your account is included in your programming package price when you subscribe to qualified programming. An additional receiver lease fee of $5.00 per month for a standard definition receiver (Solo, Duo, Solo DVR, and DuoDVR), or $7.00 per month for a high definition receiver (HD Solo, HD Duo, HD Solo DVR, or HD DuoDVR) will be charged to your account for each receiver activated beyond the first.Home:

So it is the rent fee and you have to pay for another package for your channels or do you just use the one you already have on the main receiver on your second one?HT setup

My impression is that you just pay the rental fee, and that you use the same channel package that you already have....Home:

Umm, about that...from what I've read, people have had some problems with that, especially with Dish. Dish doesn't want to activate those receivers, and this guy on this one forum was saying that he had to threaten to cancel his service for them to actually do it...I don't know if you'll have that much trouble, but its something to be aware of.Home:

I have Direct TV now, but before I had dish. I had to run the wire, but it did not require an extra receiver for the second tv. I also liked that I could watch what I recorded in one room in another.

All you need is Rg6 cable rated 2250mhz or higher. Quad shield is not needed just to be Rg6. All the quad shield is, is more shielding to keep in wanted frequencies and keep out the unwanted. I worked for dish network for 7 years and never once did they require quad shield. From my understanding of how Satellite TV works, you not only need another receiver, but another receiver on the dish as well (or at least some special kind of splitter). When my uncle had Dish Network, it was about $5/mo./box for the lease. I don't know a thing about the two room receiver, so I can't help you there. Now....If you have a dual tuner then you can even use rg59 to run from the tv2 output to the 2nd tv off the reciever.
Now someone mentioned a switch or splitter. Dish does not use splitters. But switches. And it depends on what dish you have. You could have just a dish 500 which only get 2 sats. it gets the 110 and 119. or you may have a 1000+ which gets 4 orbitals and runs thru a dp44 switch. There is so many different combonations with dish but You probably wont need a switch. Also I would not reccomend doing any switch hookups by your self.
