AMC DAC 8 D/A Converter
AMC DAC8 - 4 Digital Inputs -- 1 Optical + 3 Coaxial, 2 Outputs -- 1 Digital (BNC) + 1 Analog
APPLICATIONS AND FEATURES
The AMC model DAC8 was designed to meet professional quality standards for Digital to Analog signal conversion.
The highest grade of components are used throughout with critical components selected for the sonic performance.
Double sided, through hole plated, Printed Circuit Board.
The AMC model DAC8 provides 4 selectable S/PDIF inputs, 3 coaxial and one fiber optic.
The DAC8 can automatically lock to either 32 KHz, 44.1 KHz or 48 KHz digital sampling rates for use with laser disc players, CD÷Õ or DAT machines.
The AMC model DAC8 uses the latest generation of bit stream continuous calibration ultra-linear Digital to Analog Converter, with inherently low jitters.
For those users with digital recording capabilities, the DAC8 has a digital output for connection to DAT, MD or DCC type machines, thus maintaining the ultimate in recording quality
The AMC DAC8 provided an accurately calibrated output level in accordance with the EIA (Electronic Industries Association) recommended standard of 2 volts. This output level provides the best possible performance particularly for home theater users.
The fiber optic input provides electrical isolation from Laser Disc players, thereby avoiding conducted interference from Video sources into the Audio chain.
The superior performance of the DAC8 will provide not only improved technical specifications to your system, it will also significantly upgrade its sonic qualities.

I have used one of these in my office rig for 3 years and it's a very nice sounding dac. For the $$$ it's a no brainer to either upgrade a lower end cdp/dvdp or a PC rig or a secondary system or anywhere.
Well worth it, IMO.

Thanks for the kind words! This DAC does seem to be the budget go-to for Club Polk.

That's a yellow light on it; it's really black. I hooked it to my PC through both optical and digital coax to do A/B testing and really didn't find a difference. A lot of computers in the last few years come standard with some sort of digital out.
Here are two more pictures thanks to Russman: -

I'm interested but live in British Columbia. How much including shipping to my postal code in Vernon BC (V1T6K7)? Thanks.

I was ready to pull the trigger on this DAC for use on my bedroom cdp but a previous committment to my tech guy became ready a month earlier than anticipated and I had to pay for that first, leaving me no money for this unit. Concealer404: I think if you would be using it on your Pioneer DVD player in two channel it would be a substantial improvement for very few dollars.

Not sure, but I can say it performs well beyond the asking price . I have one, as previously mentioned, in an office rig and it sounds a lot better than any DVDp I compared it to. I also compared it to an Adcom GDA 600 and the 600 was better in almost every area.
I was going to sell my DAC8 and replace it with a GDA 600 recently. But for the cost difference in a secondary rig..........I just couldn't justify it.
YMMV, but this is a nice unit for a computer based office rig. Is it a giant killer.....no; a sleeper......yes.

Zingo, i personally really appreciate the great price you have on this thing, but i'm going to end up passing on this, mainly because of the sentiments that it would be great in an office/secondary rig. I'm trying to move out of my "let's do the same upgrade 5 times!" habits and try to bring the rest of my rig up to par with my preamp. I have no doubts that this would bring a nice improvement, just trying to buy things that will stick around for a long while now.I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Hey guys, my review wasn't meant to disuade anyone from buying. I was just trying to give an honest opinion. It's a nice dac, will it compete with higher end offerings, no but for $100 you won't find a better alternative, IMO.

Since interest seems to be low, I guess I'd be open to trades also; or $85 shipped.

$80 shipped, OBO, or trade. I don't want to have to pawn shop this great DAC...

Considered sold and thanks for all the chatter guys! But don't worry, I'll have something else soon. How about an Adcom ACE-515...
