I seem to have been pondering the answer to this question after browsing amplifies on audiogon
Can a run of the mill receiver like a yamaha 663 hooked up to an awesome amp top the performance of a high end 7.1 analog preamamp that has not quite as awsome amplifier or the same for audio during bluray movies only?
How great would the difference in movie audio be between an hdmi ssp like an integra 9.9 and a yammy 663 hooked up to the same amp again for bluray movies only ?
I do know that 2 ch or sacd would sound better with this or that just incase some of you try throw that in

Besides the sound signature each posses, I think (as I have never heard the integra) but it should walk over the 663 which I have. Not really an apple to apple comparison, basically an entry level Yamaha to a flagship Integra. If the 9.9 doesn't have much higher SQ than the Yamaha Onk did something very wrong.

In this case I would think it's all in the processing. I would suspect the preamp to sound much better than a lower end model.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!
