What exactly does this mean when applied to DVD-players?

I'm a little lost. Apparently my DV-50A is region-free. Whatever that means.

it means that the world is broken down by regions, the movie producer wanted to create dvds that could only play in a specific region, so if you have a dvd that can only play in region 1, but your player was locked to play only region 3 dvds, then you would not be able to play the dvd for region 1. it is a way to restrict pirate content.Current HT setup

Not really! Some good quality DVD players can be modified for region free. I have Pioneer DV-49av that is region and code free and plays just about everything. It also has more RAM for upscale DVD conversion to 1080p. It cost me quite a bit when I bought it.Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone. :redface::biggrin:
