Hello again all.

Had a friend buy a new receiver and we are trying to determine if there is an adapter to where you can plug speaker wire into a subwoofer input.

I looked on monoprice but couldn't find anything that I believe would work.

Anyone know of anything or any solutions?

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ryan

    Hey Ryan,
some subwoofers have what are called "speaker terminal inputs/outputs" used as an alternative method of connecting a subwoofer to a receiver (and letting you connect rear/satellite speakers to the subwoofer as opposed to running long speaker wires from receiver to speakers+subwoofer cable).

As far as looking for an adapter I don't know of any really. Does the receiver have preamp outputs? You can run those to the subwoofer's RCA inputs.

Otherwise, the receiver should have an LFE OUT i.e. subwoofer pre-out for connecting a subwoofer.

Alright thanks...he's got a HTIB speaker system and upgraded his receiver. His receiver has the RCA jack type for his sub...but the sub itself has the + and - for speaker wire.

I wasn't sure if there was anything out there to where you could hook them up.

    Thanks for the help.

That is one of the main problems with upgrading the AVR in a HTIB setup. Some times the sub doesn't have the same connections that the AVR does, esp. if it is an older HTIB. Looks like it is time to get a new sub, and the journey begins, lol.

You wouldn't get any sound, you need either an amp or a new sub, preferably the latter.
