Is it normal for some new dvd players to have no cd track number on the display?

I've never seen this before. I got a new Pioneer dvd player and the front panel display shows the elapsed time but no track number. I tried every remote button but it looks like there is no way to tell what track is playing on a cd unless you use the on screen display. Wierd.

I had a really cheap DVD player like that once...when I say really cheap...I mean like bottom of the barrel. I think it was like $35 brand new...lol

All it displayed on the front was the elapsed time of the total CD.

If I knew this I never would have ordered this player. I read up on the player and read many reviews for it and not one person mentioned the lack of a track number on the display!

Have you tried looking through the DVD players on screen menu?

I tried the on screen display. Nothing. I read the intsruction booklet and it clearly shows the display showing the elapsed time but but no track number. I don't get the reasoning behind not having a track number showing next to the elapsed time.

My Samsung DVD player also does not show track number. It only bugs me when I don't know the CD well. But then again it adds to the mystery when listening to a CD for the first time

i guess DVD players are more aimed towards DVD's and not audio CD's. therefore track numbers were prob left off. while watching a DVD you would not want to know the chapter, but you would want to know time elapsed or time remaining. it's no biggie for me. the on screen display shows track numbers, etc.
