I ran across two new pieces in my short time here in KC but have NO CLUE what I'm looking at.

Any info or insight you may have regarding these 2 pieces will be greatly appreciated.

1.) Audible Alusion Modulas pre amp

2.) Counterpoint SA-12 amp

both fire up but they both need rebuilt and I have not done any listening yet since all my stuff is 200 miles away.

Is it at all worth it?

Thanks in advance

Congrats on the find HBomb! I still can't find any info about the pre but check out www.altavistaaudio.com for the Counterpoint SA-12. The SA-12 is a hybrid MOSFET and tube amp introduced in 1984. I doubt you will need repair for it. Try out both units with your system first to make sure there's nothing wrong before doing any work on them. If you have any problems, make sure you check the tubes first before the amp. The SA-12 uses 4 6DJ8 tubes: http://search.store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/nsearch?catalog=thetubestore&query=6dj8&.autodone=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thetubestore.com%2F

are the 6DJ8's a dual triode? I just have not had much time to get my research going.

    Thanks

    Yep, they're dual triode.

When are you going to get them back? You're going to have a lot of fun trying out different tubes. I just ordered a bunch of tubes from trodeel.com to try out. A Svetlana 12AX7, Sovtek 12AX7LPS, a pair of RFT 12AU7 and a pair of Ei 12AU7 gold pin elites. I'm going to have a blast with them. I get so excited while inserting new tubes and trying out different combos. They all sound different.

Let us know how your new toys sound. What speaekers are you going to use?

Sweet old hybrid amp there Henry... CP had a pretty decent following, but unfortunately bit the dust years ago.

I also do not know the pre, but if I come across anything will post it.
    More later,
    Tour...

I was told the Audible illusions modulas was one of the best tube pres ever made. Problem is they are hard to get fixed, parts are not serviceable or unavailable.

The parts are fairly standard... The company is still in business and accept units for repair... The 6922 tubes are not that popular but the company still supplies them AND they can be found pretty easily on ebay. Not as easy to find repair as a Sony for sure, but then again, it sounds good. BTW, when looking for tubes I hear you are better off not looking for esoteric tubes. They don't last in the unit. The ones AI sells are very robust compared to earlier nos ones. Again though, you have to really be in it for the sound. No remote, not real friendly to use, can't see the writing on the knobs, noises etc. Good alternative in its class if you don't have 10 grand to spend.
