Anyone heard an 11.2 channel setup in a house?

I'm getting ready to build a house, and want to go big with my HT room. At least big for me.
I know nothing is in 11.2 yet, but my 7.1 receiver does a really good job turning 5.1 into 7.1. So I'm just wondering how well the 11.2 channel receivers sound now. Someone in here may help me with my theater since this will be by far the biggest build I have ever tried, and I have no idea where to begin.
Here is the receiver he suggested.

I'm probably at least 2 years away from doing this. I still have to pay off another loan I recently took out, and look at selling my house I have now. Then it will take at least a year for the logs to dry that is going to be used to build the house. I imagine that within 2-3 years maybe even a little longer, I should know everything I need to, to do most of the work on the room myself.
Anyway, just wondering how the 11.2 tech is working right now.

Is your theater room 20x40?Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

A waste if you ask me, do a kick a$$ 7.1 setup and be done with it. Also what are the dimensions of the dedicated HT? That should be your 1st thought, then decide what to wire the room up for. Unless your room is huge as mentioned above then a kick **** 7.1 setup is all you will need. 14x22 is a medium size room, as it is the size of my room and Grims, of course you can larger but that all depends on what your needs are.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

IF I was in your boat, I would run conduit (with pull cords) for everything, so you can upgrade speaker wires ect. Make sure to use long curve for 90's, as they can be a ****.
As far as the 11.2, seems like I remember that you can only run one or the other of the Extra Front "sensory" channels. I too would be more focused on a Primo 7.1 or 7.2 system, since Yami is the only AVR I have seen doing this, for now. We never know, it might also go the way of the HD-DVD...or the Dodo...
Plus how many DVD are setup for it anyway? -
I'm not really sure how big the room will be. The largest it can be is 34x27 with vaulted 12 foot ceilings. It's going to be above the garage, and I can pretty much do whatever I wish with it, since the house is not built yet. I will probably turn it into 3 rooms, so I don't think it will be 34x27. I really don't want it that big anyway, because it would cost a fortune to fill that size of room with sound.
I was really just wanted to know how well the 11.2 was being used by the receiver. Like I said, my 7.1 receiver does a great job turning 5.1 into 7.1, so maybe they had figured out a way to make 11.2 sound really good. The build is a good ways away really, so I'm just wanting to check out every option available, so that I don't regret any decisions to much.
As for pulling wire, I think I'm just going to put it behind the baseboards in the room. The walls will be logs, so pulling cables behind them is not an option, nor is hiding it inside of them. I'll have to run it along the walls behind the baseboard and then bring it up to the speakers and try and hide it somehow.
If anyone has any better ideas on how to run the wire, I am all ears.Denon 1909, want to upgrade for pre outs

34 x27 is huge, I would do half of that in HT and the rest in like a bar area/wet bar. That would be my ideal setup if I was working with that much space. Maybe two/three rows seating and a nice PJ/Screen to boot.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

The nice thing about a room 34' x 27' x 12' (11,016 cu.ft.)your options are endless. As Sherardp stated though, if it were me I would definitely downsize that room and go with a good 7.1 setup and pre-wire with conduit for possible expansion down the road if wanted. Man, a room that size, I could have a field day with that.:DMoney Talks, Mine says Goodbye Rob!!!!

I've owned previous generations (owned one, used a different one owned by a family member) of the Yamaha DSP systems over the years. They work really well in simulating a unique sound to an environment. In the end, though, I just kept using the Dolby setting for home theater, and one of the less 'specail' settings for music after the gimmick/newness wore off. That was before discrete surround (5.1/7.1) existed.
I am attracted to the 11.2 only because the effects channels go higher up than the typcical flattened plane setup of surround. In my opinion surround perfection would be when you could listen to nature sounds and it would come from all around and overhead just like being outside. Think of sitting in a country backyard near/within tall trees at night with no lights on and hearing the nightsongs of crickets, distant trains, a light breeze amongst the leaves. That sound comes from all directions except from within the ground underneath you. I've tried similar listening experiments on a golf course. Folks looked at me a little funny standing there with my eyes closed, but a great aural experiment none-the-less.
In the end, I think 11.2 would let me down on simulating real-world three dimensional sound. Because of that, I am putting a focus on a really well set up 7.1, so that I can recreate what the artists (=sound guys + director/producer) intended with near 100% accuracy.
Did you see a demo of the 11.2 setup in a store/shop? (you specifically asked for experience in a house - and that someone suggested the yamaha). Curious how close their unit works compared to what they create in the mind's eye (or ear, in this case).

I actually got some advice from someone on a receiver and told them I want to be as future proof as possible, and that's what they suggested. As for the room size, I think I'm going to make the area into 3 rooms, the HT, a small half bath, and a small kitchen area. Maybe a room dedicated to my equipment, but I'm not sure about that yet.
In all honesty I really only need 1 row of seats. Maybe enough room behind them to bring in a few chairs if guests come over. I really don't have guests to often, it's mostly just me, my wife, and son.Denon 1909, want to upgrade for pre outs

If your 2 years away from even STARTING construction, my suggestion would be, to wait until then. Alot can change in 2 years, as far as technology goes.
Hell, they could come out with a 13.4 avr! And with those dimensions, you're probably looking at 4 HUGE subs.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -
Do a real nice 7.1. You can add a second sub no problem. Take the extra money from not having to buy 4 more speakers and the amps to drive the system and get some real nice speakers for the 7 channels. I would suggest LSI's and an amp.

I am a long ways away, but I want to learn everything I can in that time,a nd hear all opinions I can. As of right now I really don't know where to start, and need all the help I can. I really don't want to leave everything to the last minute. I would like the room finished before we move in. If I wait until after I'm afraid I will never end up doing it. I'm also going to include the money for the room in the home loan, so Whenever I get the loan, I will need an idea on how much money I'm going to need to do everything.Denon 1909, want to upgrade for pre outs

SO is it essentially doubling each channel?

There are ACTUAL audio architechts. Get with your local builders assoc. and see who they got that specializes is building rooms for best acoustics. Then see where technology is when your ready to lay out the cash for equipt. and know by material , and lay-out of room will give you best possible sound regardless of what goodies you buy. That would be my suggestion.

I will probably more then likely have to do most of it on my own. There is only 1 custom theater design business within 100 miles of where I live that have said they will work with me. I've tried several times to contact the person they say I need to speak with. His daughter told me that he is the one that handles all custom designs. Within the last month he has only been at the shop for a few hours. I really don't know how many actual jobs they have done that is as big as the one that I'm wanting, so it looks like it will probably be just me and the internet that puts this all together. There are ACTUAL audio architechts. That's really the reason I am asking questions so early on. I will more then likely get most of my info from you guys here in the polk forum, and guys in the AVS forum. HT just isn't very big at all in my area.Denon 1909, want to upgrade for pre outs
