Gents,

Need to install a stealth video surveillance system around the house. Looking for something wireless with motion sensing recording capabilities. Need to catch some thieves that have been getting into the vehicles.

Thanks in advance for any knowledge.

Here's a link to D Link's site, they have some cameras that might be just what you want. There's a video too.

Have you considered one of the recording devices from costco.com? They don't have motion sensing that I know of, but they record everything to a hard drive IIRC.

This free software and a webcam is cheap and quick. Has motion detect. You will need a IR camera and light to do night work.

    Here is another option

They have still and motion type cameras. I have seen some unbelievable things these have caught of nature shots. I would think they would work for security as well. Might have a better resale value when you are done with them.

Good luck catching the low life

Great idea. Thanks. Recently lost a laptop and some other high tech gear. They got into a gated area of the drive in back of the house!

    Some pointers:

First, are they doing this at night? If so, look for something with night vision capabilities.

Second, power source: wireless cameras usually run on a battery, but from what I understand, the battery life is not long at all. It you travel a lot, the usual recommendation is to use the ac adapter that comes with the cameras. This may limit placement of the cameras as you would need to have access to an outlet (some wire fishing may be necessary).

Third, if you travel, you may want to look for something that has web capabilities. Basically, a system that has web capabilities has its own network card installed (or can run on your computer w/software). You can access live video of your house (real time or very close to it) and, if it has a dvr, any motion recordings stored on the drive. You can access this info from any internet connection (you set up a login and password).

Fourth, if you want to catch these clowns, you will need to have footage of them committing the crime and be able to show this footage to the police. Look for something that has dvr capabilites and a high resolution camera to best make out faces, etc.

Some links to get an idea:

A little pricey but gives you an example of the aforementioned and actually communicates info/video through power outlets:

    Hope this helps

You should consider looking into Geovision. It records onto hard drive and can be viewed live anywhere with internet. The frame rate is incredible, meaning very clear video. All of my family businesses and to my understanding Vegas uses it as well. It is not that expensive, the camera's could add up though.
