I have the above TT and just got a new motor to replace the original that was making some noise. I'm hopeing some of the resident experts can give me some tips on how to replace it. Things to do or not do, etc. If it's really tricky or requires special tools, I'll take it to a shop, but would like to do it myself if it's not too complicated.

Is that an AR-XA Skip? I have no idea how to change the motor, but that was my very first table. Shure V15 Type III.

Same here. A completely manual TT. I "fell asleep" one night listening to a Canned Heat album, and woke up later hearing "boogie, boogie, boogie" (their trademark phrase) over and over as the needle endlessly played at the end of the record.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

IIRC, the motor assembly is just screwed to the chasis and then wired to the switch...it's not that big of a job. You just have to find the motor..

Please take and post some pictures of the motor and replacement steps.
I also have an early XA TT -
Just be sure to remove or secure the tonearm before you start. Should be a simple pull and replace on the motor.>

I looked at the owner's manual on Vinyl Engine and it is just two screws on the motor and a wire harness. Looks like aligning the pulley with the table is the biggest thing.>

maybe before removing the motor
would be to take several measurements
and make markings so position and alignment would
be closer to original.
then it would be some fine tuning after replacement. -
Thanks for the tips all. It's not an AR-XA, though I have one of those too. The actual model name is "The AR Turntable". It's basically identical to the EB-101, their last production model. Replacing the motor looked pretty simple, what I was concerned about is removing the belt pully from the motor shaft and re-installing it. I lucked out while browsing e-prey and found a NOS Hurst 3 amp 300rpm motor and cap for $80, the motor that was used in the two latest AR's. I also got a great deal on a Stanton 881EEE from Needle Doctor, so it's time to refurb the ole vinyl spinner. The manual for the TT has pretty good set-up instructions, but no instructions on how to remove the pully. I was worried about bending the motor shaft, and hoped someone here may have done a change out in the past.

Skip, know anyone with R/C cars? A small gear puller might do the trick, depending on the size of the pulley/puller. Or use the spoon pry method at your own risk.Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 * -
IMO ... i would ask a machinist to just make a new pulley or find a donor one
and save the original especially if the motor is still good.
